Summary
- Vampire Survivors shadow dropped the new Emerald Diorama DLC.
- The DLC is a crossover with Square Enix’s SaGa Emerald Beyond.
April 10 saw an unexpected release for fans: a crossover DLC titled “Emerald Diorama” dropped simultaneously on all platforms for the game “Vampire Survivors.” This free downloadable content features more than a dozen playable characters and introduces the Glimmer battle system, which is popular in Square Enix’s “SaGa” series.
In April 2024, the game titled “SaGa Emerald Beyond” was launched, which is a turn-based Japanese Role Playing Game (JRPG) that offers various paths for players to progress through its narrative. The game revolves around six characters and five separate storylines; one such tale follows a witch as she endeavors to restore her magical abilities while maintaining an undercover identity within society. Players can traverse 17 distinct worlds using the Junction, with each realm showcasing environments that range from wild forests to domains ruled by mythical creatures. Despite receiving mixed feedback from fans, “SaGa Emerald Beyond” continues to rank among the top mobile RPGs of the past decade.
At the Triple-i Initiative event, gamers were taken aback as they received a free downloadable expansion for “Vampire Survivors” alongside an update. The “Vampire Surivors” Patch 1.13 and the Emerald Diorama DLC occupy approximately 91 MB of storage space. According to developer Luca “Poncle” Galante, those not familiar with the SaGa series can still appreciate the Emerald Diorama DLC. To celebrate the sudden release of this expansion, Poncle posted a short, animated teaser showcasing characters from SaGa Emerald Beyond being sucked into Vampire Survivors. This new addition, Emerald Diorama, follows closely on the heels of the widely popular Ode To Castlevania expansion which was released about six months ago in Vampire Survivors.
The setting in the game called “Emerald Diorama” is a side-scrolling stage that combines various worlds from “SaGa Emerald Beyond“. This unique blend introduces fresh characters and weapons for you to unlock. The party system and Glimmer mechanics from “SaGa” have been tailored to harmonize with the gameplay of “Vampire Survivors“. Additionally, this crossover version of “Vampire Survivors“, known as v.1.13 or “The Coop” update, hides delightful chicken-themed rewards for players to discover.
The latest version offers cross-saving compatibility on many devices. Regrettably, the cross-save feature for PS4 and PS5 was dropped at the final stage due to legal complications between Sony and Vampire Survivors. Cross-save functionality for Nintendo Switch users will be available later. Additionally, v.1.13 introduces free Adventure modes for both the main game and the Tides of the Foscari expansion, as well as bug fixes and enhancements to improve overall user experience.
Among the many updates for Vampire Survivors, version 1.13, which includes the Emerald Diorama DLC and content from The Coop, is one of the largest ever in the game’s history. Only time will reveal what exciting discoveries await fans of both Vampire Survivors and SaGa with this new update.

Nintendo Switch will follow asap. For PlayStation instead please see below.
An update on PlayStation cross-save
Unfortunately, we must inform you that the Cross-Save functionality for Vampire Survivors will not be implemented on PlayStation 4 and 5 during this upcoming update.
Just last month, we announced that the Cross-Save feature will become accessible on PlayStation 4/5, personal computers (PC), Xbox, Android devices, and iOS devices, all coinciding with our forthcoming free VS update in April.
Unfortunately, at the last moment, we encountered an unexpected legal problem with PlayStation which necessitates us to disclose information about our partners, a requirement we are currently unable to fulfill.
It appears that the likelihood of Cross-Save arriving on PlayStation consoles has significantly decreased, but it’s still technically possible. Therefore, we will continue collaborating with PlayStation to tackle these issues and find a solution.
We apologize for creating excitement about this PlayStation feature, but unfortunately, our plans had to be altered at the very end.
In the coming weeks, Cross-Save functionality will continue to be accessible across PC, Xbox, Android, and iOS platforms. The Nintendo Switch version will become available at a later time, while integration with Apple Arcade is planned, provided it doesn’t infringe upon our privacy pledges.
Note: If you’re considering Cross-Save primarily to earn trophies, keep in mind that Sony’s policy is to disable trophies system-wide for all games when using a save file from another platform. This seems to be the agreement we would need to accept if we manage to implement Cross-Save on PlayStation.
We just won Evolving Game at the BAFTA Games Awards 2025
Previously, we invested all our resources and even more, to improve and add fresh content to VS. Rest assured, this momentum won’t slow down any time soon!
I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all our game enthusiasts for their unwavering loyalty towards us, our collaborators, and a big shout-out to BAFTA for honoring us with an award!
Poe is now available in Rusty’s Retirement
In a stark contrast, games like Vampire Survivors and Rusty’s Retirement couldn’t be more dissimilar, yet we, at Mister Morris Games, are ardent admirers of the idle-farming sim. The idea of Poe retiring and joining this game alongside an array of Vampire Survivors characters seemed intriguing to us. In fact, you might encounter a horde of bats invading your screen (though you can disable them if they’re causing too much turbulence in your peaceful farming life).
The update for Rusty’s Retirement on Steam is free and available right now. For an even more thrilling experience, why not play Rusty’s Retirement alongside Vampire Survivors? This way, you can enjoy a state of tranquility and excitement simultaneously!

Official Vampire Survivors lore book coming soon
The year is approximately MMXXI in Rural Italy…
Vampire survivors are persistently on a mission through various terrains. They traverse the treacherous Mad Forest, ascend the perilous Gallo Tower, and explore the deepest corners of the Inlaid Library. The Belpaese clan, the Ladonnas, assorted religious figures, and other supernatural entities are all involved in this quest. But there’s an oddity: why is roasted chicken found everywhere? How does a dog manage to make flowers bloom? And who – or what – is Poe Ratcho?
And where are the vampires?
In this case, I am the one who can assist you. I am known as The Merchant, and I can serve as your guide if you have gold available. Gold is always required in my transactions. If you require coffins, I might be able to help locate them – but only for a fee.
Though I cannot guarantee you’ll find the vampires you seek…

Chaos Roadmap
In the latest update 1.13, we got not just one but two additions – The Coop and Emeralds. There’s a high likelihood that the upcoming update might include multiple items as per our planned features.
It’s quite possible that there are more than one Darkanas, and it’s hard to say just how many secrets we’re still concealing.
FAQs
Ha ha. When is real co-op coming?
Our cooperative mode has already been active for about a year now. As for the online co-op feature, it’s not set in stone when it will be released, but it’s definitely planned for the latter part of 2025.
Why SaGa Emerald Beyond?
For those who’ve played Vampire Survivors as a fan of SaGa, it’s clear that I hold a deep affection for the series. The core game itself is filled with tributes to the beloved SaGa franchise, and one of the most notable homages might be NO FUTURE, the Runetracer evolution, which is undoubtedly the first and most recognized nod.
Despite appearing vastly distinct, VS and the SaGa series share more similarities than one might initially think, according to my perspective.
Although VS and the SaGa series may seem worlds apart, I find that there are numerous parallels between them, as seen from my point of view.
– Freedom to experiment with tight gameplay mechanics
– Straight to the point
– Quirky unpredictable world
– Spectacular attacks
– Over the top attacks
– A huge cast of characters
– Though to start – steamroll everything after you learn how to play
– A soundtrack that demands attention instead of fading in the background
For me, SaGa holds a special place, as its impact is immense. Despite the games falling into distinctly different categories, the core concept resonates deeply: “Here’s a unique realm, enjoy exploring it!
Instead of delving into SaGa Emerald Beyond again since it’s our latest, fresh addition, I believe it makes the most sense for us to analyze
I assure you, my intention wasn’t solely for the purpose of gaining early access to SaGa Emerald Beyond, three months before its public launch.
Do I need to know SaGa to play the expansion?
You don’t necessarily require prior knowledge of Vampire Survivors to start playing it! Knowledge about SaGa isn’t required either. Even if you’ve already encountered extra stages or those that come after the ending in VS, you might not spot significant changes in its themes.
Regardless of your preference for JRPGs, this collaboration introduces numerous characters with unique abilities and weapons using the innovative Glimmer system. Given that it’s free, I would suggest giving it a download and trying it out! (Please note that it requires 50k in-game coins to prevent newcomers from accidentally starting it and being overwhelmed by the additional gameplay mechanics.)
Why is it free?
Administrative Tasks: Sorting out the necessary documents took an inordinate amount of time for this collaboration, and obtaining the license would have been even more complicated if there had been any monetary transactions. This is just how it goes with large corporations; despite the creative minds on both sides being eager to collaborate, as has been the case here and in all other collaborations, a multitude of steps must be taken because intellectual property is a significant concern and numerous departments need to be engaged when money is involved.
By opting for the simpler approach, we all reap benefits! I get to enjoy SaGa, SaGa gains additional exposure, and you receive complimentary content, smiles all around! 🙂
Why didn’t you get [insert other SQEX IP here] instead?
Though there are numerous Square Enix games I adore, it wasn’t as if a magical Square Enix genie appeared and presented us with a list of IPs to select from (even if it had, my initial choice would still have been SaGa, apologies!).
We simply spoke directly with the SaGa team and everything clicked from there!
Should a magical genie happen to read this, kindly understand that I would be most appreciative if granted one of each item on the menu. Thank you!
What’s your favourite SaGa? Which one should I try first?
Each installment in this series stands out uniquely, or it’s so remarkably distinct from the rest! (As a fan, I find myself constantly amazed by its diversity!)
A better approach might be to simply trust your instincts and avoid any preconceived notions about how the game will unfold, as they’re likely to be off-base: these are games that deviate significantly from typical RPG conventions, encouraging you to explore and learn the mechanics independently.
As a fellow gaming enthusiast, let me share my unbridled passion for Unlimited SaGa. Rest assured, every game I appreciate holds equal weight in my heart, but Unlimited SaGa is one I can’t help but adore!
I’m confident that there’s something for everyone in this latest update. Looking forward to catching up with you all again, but not too soon – we’ve got a Content and Quality of Life update coming up, focusing on streamlining our content, due later this year!
