Viral Post Claims Five Nights at Freddy’s is Ending

A popular post circulating on social media claimed the Five Nights at Freddy’s series was ending, but it’s now clear that post was a fake. Five Nights at Freddy’s is still thriving in 2026, and its creator, Scott Cawthon, hasn’t indicated any plans to discontinue the franchise, meaning fans have nothing to worry about for now.

I first got into Five Nights at Freddy’s back when it was just this small indie horror game in 2014, and honestly, it’s blown up since then! What started as me being a night guard at a pizza place with creepy, moving robots has become this huge thing with movies, books, and tons more games. It’s easy to pick up and play, but what really got me hooked was the story. It’s surprisingly deep, with messed-up secrets, kids who disappeared, and spooky supernatural stuff. It’s way more than just jump scares – it’s a really complex and twisted tale!

FNAF Hoax Claims the Franchise is Ending Soon

Okay, so I just saw a really big post from Scott Cawthon, the guy who created Five Nights at Freddy’s. Basically, he’s saying he’s ready to wrap up the whole story. He’s been doing a lot of thinking and talking with his family, and he’s decided it’s time to ‘close the doors’ on FNAF for good. That means the games, books, and anything else currently in the works will be the last official stuff we get – though he didn’t mention anything about the movies. He knows a lot of us won’t be happy to hear it, but he says every story has to end eventually.

If the rumors are true, it would be disappointing news for fans of Five Nights at Freddy’s. Many were surprised to hear the franchise might end, especially since Scott Cawthon already stepped back from game development in 2021. He made this decision after some fans reacted negatively to his political donations, and Steel Wool Studios has been handling development ever since. Doubts about the announcement grew when several people claimed it was fake. This includes YouTuber Adam Sklar, who used to manage official FNAF social media and says he’s still in contact with Cawthon.

The strangest thing about this post is that it seems to have been meant as an April Fool’s Day joke, but it didn’t even arrive on the right day. Posted on April 2nd, it was a day late for the holiday. Despite this, it still fooled almost 14,000 fans, and the account behind it has over 22,000 followers. Considering the account has been sharing real Five Nights at Freddy’s news since March 2025, it’s easy to see why so many people believed the fake announcement – whoever created it was clearly planning this for a long time.

Scott Cawthon remains involved with the Five Nights at Freddy’s movies, which are made in partnership between Blumhouse Productions and his own company, Scott Cawthon Productions. The first film, released in 2023, has earned over $291 million (according to Box Office Mojo). While critics gave the 2025 sequel a very low score of 11% on Rotten Tomatoes, general audiences loved it, giving it an 83% rating on Popcornmeter. Reports indicate that a third movie is currently being planned, with filming expected to start in late summer 2026.
