As a seasoned researcher with a keen interest in blockchain technology and its potential impact on governance systems, I find Vitalik Buterin’s advocacy for pluralism intriguing. Having closely followed his work since Ethereum’s inception, it’s clear that he is not one to shy away from innovative ideas.
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum (ETH), has proposed the idea of “Plurality” as a method to address the conflicts between the cryptocurrency world and conventional governance structures. Although he acknowledges that this pluralistic viewpoint could strengthen existing systems, he does not envision it leading to their replacement.
Vitalik Buterin Side With Plurality, Citing its Potentials
Approximately two years ago, American economist and author Glen Weyl penned an essay entitled “Why I Am A Supporter of Multifaceted Ideologies”. In this piece, the executive at Microsoft Research explained that Pluralism refers to a social ideology that values and nurtures the growth and collaboration between various cultural and societal groups or structures.
In a recent blog post, one of Ethereum’s co-founders expresses great enthusiasm about utilizing a pluralistic philosophy across various societal and technological landscapes. He believes that incorporating multiple ideas can foster collaboration and decision-making in areas such as blockchain networks, social media platforms, and local governance systems. His support for this approach extends beyond the academic realm; he envisions practical implementation of this concept in everyday life.
The pioneer in cryptocurrency is optimistic that ongoing explorations across various sectors like blockchain, social media, local governance, and others could bring substantial advantages. He mentioned these potential improvements might boost autonomy, encourage collaboration, and decrease polarization. Regarding the blockchain environment, Vitalik Buterin emphasizes the inherent decentralized characteristics of the technology itself.
As a result, he thinks that a philosophy emphasizing multiple perspectives could offer solutions for problems such as collusion and competition among members of the blockchain community.
Blockchain Protocols Pursues Decentralization And Improved Governance
Typically, Vitalik Buterin envisions a more comprehensive scope for blockchain technology, aligning with his inclusive perspective. He is eager to foster a platform that unites various stakeholders under a collaborative umbrella, resisting the pull towards centralized control.
It’s no surprise that the Ethereum community is deliberately focusing on enhancing its governance structure. Similarly, Charles Hoskinson’s Cardano is also making intentional adjustments in its governance, as demonstrated by the Chang Hard Fork update.
Significantly, the Chang hard fork aims at enhancing Cardano’s ability to handle larger volumes of transactions and decentralizing the management of its network. This upcoming event has been generating a lot of excitement within the Cardano community. Recently, it was reported that 58% of Cardano nodes have already transitioned to version 9.1.0, with only about 12% more needed to trigger the upgrade.
A few days after, the protocol also released an upgrade for the Hydra Head scaling solution.
