Whale Moves $257 Million Worth of Bitcoin

As a seasoned crypto investor with over a decade of experience under my belt, I find this recent 2,700 BTC transfer intriguing. Having entered the game back when Bitcoin was just $625, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and wonder about the journey this whale has been on.

As per information from the cryptocurrency analysis company Lookonchain, a substantial investor holding approximately 2,700 Bitcoins (equivalent to over $250 million USD) has moved their entire holdings following an eleven-year period of inactivity.

In December 2013, a whale first got hold of around 2,700 Bitcoins when the primary cryptocurrency was worth approximately $625 each.

A large-scale shift has sparked considerable curiosity on social platforms, as numerous individuals conjecture about its intended function online.

“That person probably waited for the divorce to finalize first,” an X user quipped.

Some have also suggested that the whale might have decided to sell their Bitcoin stash too early. “They should hodl to $1 million!” another user commented.

Transactions originating from Bitcoin wallets that haven’t been active for a long time aren’t unheard of, but this one stands out because of its impressive value. It’s extremely unusual for these types of wallets to hold over 1,000 Bitcoins.

As an analyst, it appears that the long-held investor in Bitcoin, known colloquially as a ‘whale with diamond hands’, may have chosen to liquidate some of their holdings given the current surge towards $100,000. It’s worth noting that this year alone, the price of Bitcoin has climbed an impressive 128.11%.

As reported by BitInfoCharts, a total of approximately 1,978 unique bitcoin wallets currently hold over 1,000 bitcoins each.

Various countries, including nations themselves, hold significant amounts of Bitcoin. Just this past week, the U.S. administration moved 19,800 Bitcoins, which temporarily lowered the price. Eventually, they transferred 10,000 of those Bitcoins to Coinbase Prime.

14 years ago, a cryptocurrency wallet from the early days of Bitcoin (Satoshi era) became active again and moved 2,000 Bitcoins last month, as reported by U.Today.
