The anticipation for Armored Brigade 2 has been building like a tank on a hill, and finally getting a sneak peek at gameplay has me as excited as a kid on Christmas morning. I can almost taste the victory as the third dimension finally fixes that pesky terrain reading issue in the original.
2024 saw Matrix Games delivering another round of thrilling wargaming updates, undoubtedly among the most exhilarating news in the gaming world this year! And to sweeten the deal, they’ve got an enormous sale going on. Here’s a rundown of what unfolded at the Wargamers’ Den in 2024:
Armored Brigade 2
As a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement! The pièce de résistance at the event was undeniably the extended gameplay sneak peek of Armored Brigade 2. It lived up to every bit of my expectations and then some! The original Armored Brigade is one of my cherished wargames, despite its somewhat challenging terrain reading. However, with the addition of three dimensions, it’s set to iron out that wrinkle, making Armored Brigade nearly flawless.
Commander: Europe at War
It has been announced that a 3D reimagining of the 2007 Matrix games titled Commander: Europe at War is in development. This new version will enhance the game’s artificial intelligence, user interface, and diplomacy system. The graphics appear sleek and calming with their soft pastel color scheme.
Flahspoint Campaigns: Cold War
The upcoming game, Cold, will be set during the 1980s on the West German border and promises to deliver a greater amount of content than what was available in Flashpoint Campaigns: Southern Storm. Initially, I speculated whether it would be a brand new game, but the developer’s description of it as a “new starting point” suggests that it is likely not a completely fresh title.
Modern Naval Warfare
In the spotlight for the cutting-edge naval warfare simulation, Modern Naval Warfare, was none other than the United States Navy. The main creators unveiled their advancements and premiered a fresh trailer showcasing the U.S. Navy as well as a gameplay clip depicting an assault on a Chinese ship.
Rule The Waves 3: Expanded Battles
The first downloadable content for Rule the Waves 3 is approaching, introducing a scenario editor for the first time! This new feature allows you to tailor various aspects of your naval battles, including the time period, battle location, fleet compositions, formations, and more. Ultimately, the goal is to enable players to design their own historical sea battles!
Moreover, you’ll find a variety of pre-constructed historical battles within it. The initial phase of testing is scheduled for early 2025. This additional content could well be what entices me to start playing the game.
