The Legend of Heroes series has been running for quite a while now, and with each new release, Nihon Falcom has fine-tuned the gameplay by introducing fresh features and mechanisms to keep the journey through this extensive JRPG series engaging. In the case of Trails Through Daybreak 2, the combat system has undergone a significant upgrade and now includes a collection of mini-dungeons that offer substantial rewards. To get the most out of your adventure, it’s advisable to collect as many S-Tokens (also known as Shard Tokens) as you can, and here is how you can obtain them.
Minor spoilers below, proceed with caution.
How to Get S-Tokens in Trails Through Daybreak 2
As a gamer, I found that although I got some S-Tokens at the game’s start, it wasn’t until I made it to Act I-A that I could truly gather them in quantity. The narrative leads you back to Marchen Garten for a second visit. When I sign off, I gain the power to uncover secret nodes holding S-Tokens using the Search feature. Smaller nodes yield 50 S-Tokens, while larger ones give 200.
It’s worth mentioning that these nodes don’t seem to regenerate, and they’re distributed in large numbers throughout the area. Additionally, when you destroy crystals during your adventures in Marchen Garten, you can gather a bit of S-Tokens as well.
What Are S-Tokens Used For?
As a gamer, I know that S-Tokens serve dual functions in Marchen Garten. Primarily, they’re used to scrutinize the Mystic Cube. To do this, all I need to do is hold down the button, which on my PC is the left mouse button, as shown in the screenshot provided. When I successfully analyze the Mystic Cube, I’m rewarded with a variety of goodies each time.
- Cosmetics
- Skill Stones
- Sepith (All eight kinds)
- Consumables (including Zeram Capsules on occasion)
- Ingredients for cooking
- Fishing Bait
- U-Material
After thoroughly examining the Mystic Cube, the progress gauge resets to its initial state at 0%, continuously filling up while you maintain pressure on the analyze button. Occasionally, the Mystic Cube may advance to a more uncommon variant that houses exclusive treasures.
Skill points assigned through Craft Enhance can also be returned using S-Tokens. However, since returning them only requires 500 S-Tokens, it’s suggested to preserve these tokens for investigating the Mystic Cube instead.
Should You Spend S-Tokens Right Away?
If you’re not nearly at the 100% mark yet, it would be wiser to wait until you accumulate at least several thousand S-Tokens. The more you employ them for analyzing the Mystic Cube, the more Sepith you will acquire. This applies to Sepith Mass as well, which can be exchanged for Mira. Moreover, you’ll gather a substantial amount of Sepith for crafting new Quartz and opening Orbment slots on your Xipha.
As S-Tokens can be gathered relatively swiftly, you can accumulate a substantial number of them in no time. Later, you can use these tokens to boost the Mystic Cube’s contents, giving you more Sepith and Mira. This extra stock will help your team face the upcoming challenges more effectively.
