Where to catch a Goldenfish in Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds, one of your early side-quests involves finding a Goldenfish, which you can start after defeating Alpha Doshaguma and saving Kunafa village. To initiate this quest, simply talk to Kanya, who is fishing by the pool at the Scarlet Forest Base Camp’s rear.

As a fishing enthusiast, Kanya hands me an extraordinary Golden Bughead lure, hinting that it works best in dim, gloomy spots. With numerous hidden caves scattered throughout the Forbidden Lands, I’ve been advised to focus my search on these shadowy areas for the elusive Goldenfish.

Monster Hunter Wilds Goldenfish location

In the Scarlet Forest, specifically in region 8, there’s a cave where Goldenfish can be found. This cave is quite near the Area 8: Underground Lake Campsite if you’ve already explored it. If not, navigate to area 8, which is on the opposite side of the map from the base camp. After passing through the waterfall, you’ll discover a hidden entrance to the cave. This cave also happens to be frequented by Wudwuds who are often seen fishing there, but their exact locations within the cave tend to change at random.

The ideal fishing spot you’re looking for is situated to the left side, where the Pop-up Camp is located. You might find Wudwuds fishing there, but look out for a small rocky outcrop jutting above the water and a large school of Goldenfish and Platinumfish swimming in the pool beneath it.

On the controller, press the left bumper and choose the fishing rod from the collection of essential items on the left using your right joystick. Keep holding the right bumper while changing your bait to the Golden Bughead that Kanya provided by pressing the buttons. Now you’re all set to cast and catch a fish. Remember, the capture net won’t contribute to your fishing quest progress, so use the fishing rod instead.

Should you find that this place doesn’t have any Goldenfish, there’s another fishing location you can explore. To get there, simply make your way to the lower platform, wade into the water, and select the dive option to reach the other side. Once you catch a Goldenfish, bring it back to Kanya at the base camp.

As compensation, you’ll receive three Whetfish Fins, five jars of honey, and 50 Guild Points. Additionally, you can sell a Goldenfish’s Golden Scale to earn some additional money.
