I’m really excited about all the stuff you can find in Hytale! It’s not just the usual building blocks like stone and dirt, there are actually gemstones you can use to craft some seriously cool, magical equipment. The first ones they’ve shown off are Rubies and Sapphires, but honestly, a lot of us are finding them super rare to dig up – it’s a bit frustrating, but I’m sure it’ll be worth it when we finally get our hands on them!
Rubies and sapphires are much harder to find than most other materials in Hytale. You’ll need to explore a dangerous, specific underground area to have a chance of finding them, and even then, it might take several trips because finding these gems also relies on luck.
Hytale Ruby & Sapphire Locations
These valuable gems are typically located inside volcanoes on volcanic islands. If you explore down into a volcano, you might discover a shrine built from gold. We found a Ruby and a Sapphire resting on top of one of these shrines, and you might also find extra gems in nearby chests if you’re fortunate.
Okay, so I figured out a really easy way to get down into the volcano – just grab a water bucket and make a water elevator! It’s kinda crazy how well that works. The tunnels around the volcanoes usually lead right to the main cave where you find those cool golden temples. Just a heads-up though, Zone 4’s volcanic islands are seriously tough. You’ll want to be ready for a fight, I’d recommend bringing at least Cobalt-tier gear. Trust me, you don’t want to be underprepared!
What are Rubies & Sapphires for in Hytale?
Currently, these gems are mainly used to create magical equipment at a special workbench called an Arcanist’s Workbench. Building this workbench requires Thorium Ingots. This equipment includes Staves, which are weapons you use from a distance and power with Essences to cast spells. You’ll need Rubies to craft Fire Staves and Sapphires to make Ice Staves.
You’ll need Silver and/or Gold to create a staff. You can find both of these valuable metals in Zone 4, although they sometimes appear in chests elsewhere. When you’re exploring Zone 4, be sure to search for Gold and Silver if you plan on crafting a staff.
As of this guide, staves aren’t very powerful compared to other weapons in Hytale. Plus, getting the ammunition they need can be a bit of a hassle, so keep that in mind.
