It has come to pass, dear reader, that the esteemed Michael Saylor, a noble co-founder of a rather grand enterprise, hath ventured forth to extol the virtues of Bitcoin, the most illustrious among cryptocurrencies, to none other than the illustrious Jeff Bezos, a man of unimaginable wealth.
“Bitcoin,” quoth Saylor, “is perchance the most remarkable instrument to champion personal liberties and the free market’s benevolent embrace. It doth provide an open protocol for prosperity that may be transmitted to all through the wondrous marvels of digital technology!” Indeed! Who knew a digital currency could be so noble? 🎩💰
“A dangerous precedent” Â
Now, our dear Mr. Bezos, who doth preside over The Washington Post as a suzerain, recently ignited a flame of controversy by proclaiming that the hallowed opinion section of said publication shall henceforth be restricted to writings that extol the virtues of “free markets” and “personal liberties.” How terribly avant-garde! ðŸ¤
In a most dramatic twist worthy of the theatre, David Shipley, the editor of this section, has chosen to resign in protest against this newfound decree. Oh, what a spectacle! Methinks the internet is too crowded with divergent opinions anyway, or so claims the billionaire himself. Quite the master of the understatement, I must say!
“I am resolutely certain that free markets and personal liberties are indeed the rightful heirs of the American ethos,” he declared with an air of indignation. How droll!
Not all have embraced such lofty sentiments. Some observers have expressed utter disbelief at this affair, labeling it as “shocking” and “chilling.” One particularly expressive gentleman, Damian Boeselager, a member of the European Parliament, proclaimed it to be “a dangerous precedent.” One cannot help but chuckle! 😄
Nevertheless, other wise souls have dismissed this policy’s implications, asserting that proprietors of publications have long dictated the editorial direction of their periodicals, a time-honored tradition, indeed!
