Though released over a decade ago, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim remains incredibly influential in the open-world RPG genre. Created by Bethesda, it features a beautifully detailed world filled with quests, hidden areas, dungeons, and memorable characters. More than a traditional RPG, Skyrim is a true sandbox, giving players immense freedom to explore and discover the game’s many surprising and charming details.
Skyrim is full of surprising and unique experiences, from strange weapons and magical effects to unusual ways to improve your character – it’s much more than just completing quests and getting stronger. Whether you’ve played for hours, days, or are just starting out, discovering the game’s most bizarre and interesting features is a must-do for every player.
Advanced Fishing Tactics
Shout Your Catch Out Of The Water
Fishing is available in the 2026 version of Skyrim, but why stick with a simple fishing rod when you can use your awesome Dragonborn powers instead? It’s all about looking cool, of course!
Okay, so I always have Unrelenting Force equipped, and it’s seriously a game-changer for fishing! I can blast the fish right out of the water, making them super easy to grab. Then I just cook ’em up for a snack or sell them in Whiterun for a little extra gold. It’s a great way to make some money and feel productive even when I’m not off saving the world from dragons, you know?
Level Up Using A Horse
Smack Your Steed, And Skill Up
Having trouble leveling up quickly, particularly on harder settings? Here’s a tip: casting Restoration spells in busy city areas can help. But if you’d rather improve your fighting skills – like Archery, Two-Handed, or One-Handed weapons – simply get a horse.
First, activate the Warrior Stone to get a 20% experience boost. Then, head to town and start attacking horses. This works because horses in Skyrim are surprisingly durable and can withstand a lot of damage.
Become A Werewolf
Howl To The Moon In Your Beast Form
Why be a regular person when you could become a powerful, furry werewolf? If that sounds good to you, check out the Companions in Whiterun. You’ll need to complete a few tasks first, but then you can go through the ritual to become a werewolf.
You can transform once each day, but use this ability carefully! Turning people – like ordinary citizens or guards – into vampires will scare them and put a price on your head. If you decide you don’t want to be a vampire anymore, you can become human again by completing the Companions questline.
Gather A Collection Of Cheese Wheels
We Love Cheese!
Bethesda games are known for their quirky physics, and this one is no different. You can use console commands to create stacks of cheese wheels just for fun, or if you prefer a more traditional approach, you can collect cheese throughout the game world and store it at your house.
That’s a huge amount of food, and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love cheese? Your future partner might be surprised by all of it, but as the Dragonborn, you make the rules in Skyrim. If you want a mountain of cheese, you can have one!
Kill Your Companion
The Non-Essential Ones, At Least
It’s happened to most of us who play these kinds of games: you team up with a companion, go on quests together, and then suddenly realize they’ve disappeared. This often leads to a frantic search. Sometimes you’ll discover what happened to them – maybe their remains in a dungeon after they bravely held off enemies while you were occupied. Other times, they’re just gone, leaving you to wonder what became of them.
Some companions aren’t vital to the story, meaning if they die, they’re permanently lost. Luckily, the most important companions can’t be permanently killed – they’ll just be knocked down and need help getting back up when things get tough.
Climbing A Mountain With A Horse
The Horses Really Are Made Differently In Skyrim
We’ve already seen how useful horses are for practicing combat, but they’re also the fastest way to travel across Skyrim. Unlike most things in the game, horses aren’t restricted by realistic physics, letting you get just about anywhere quickly and easily.
Players are able to climb incredibly steep cliffs, even the massive mountain in the center of the world, reaching High Hrothgar. While it requires effort and preparation, this climbing route is a more engaging and rewarding experience than simply traveling from Ivarstead, and it feels much more impressive.
Annoying Essential NPCs
Test The Patience Of These Immortal Characters
So, in Skyrim, some characters are marked as ‘essential’. Basically, that means you can whale on them with your sword all day, but they won’t die! It’s a game thing to make sure you don’t accidentally mess up the main storylines by killing someone you need to finish a quest.
This also allows you to repeatedly bother the game’s characters and trick them into fighting. You could even lead them into huge battles far from where they normally hang out – imagine getting Ulfric to fight a dragon, or having Brynjolf defend you from the city guard when they’re trying to arrest you!
Getting Sent To The Atmosphere By A Giant
Sign Up For The Skyrim Space Program
Okay, so Giants are seriously scary in this game. They’re huge and hit like a truck – one hit and you’re pretty much done for. If you want the stuff they drop, or even the mammoths they’re usually hanging around, you definitely want to take them down from a safe distance. Trust me, up close is a bad idea!
Okay, so everyone who plays this game eventually gets absolutely launched by these guys – I’m talking sent flying into space during the kill cam. Seriously, thank goodness for the kill cam! It’s given us some of the funniest moments and screenshots over the years. It’s almost a tradition at this point!
Using Buckets For Stealth
Now You See Me, Now You Don’t
Having trouble with money in Skyrim? Annoyed by constantly needing to complete quests and collect loot just to buy basic items like potions or soul gems? I understand! Fortunately, you can easily steal from almost any shopkeeper using just a simple bucket or basket.
Put that item on their head and start looting their shop. You’ll quickly earn enough money to afford a beautiful home in Solitude or Markarth, complete with all the upgrades you want. This strategy works for any stealth-based mission, so always keep the most powerful stealth item in your inventory.
Hardcore Parkour
Markarth Is Your Jumping Playground
While Skyrim has some climbing opportunities, Cyberpunk 2077 takes it to another level. If you enjoy parkour, try exploring Markarth and see how far you can climb using unconventional routes.
This city is the perfect place to explore, and you’ll likely find hidden areas you didn’t know existed. If you have the Whirlwind Sprint ability, it’s even easier to get around and cover more ground as you navigate the city’s buildings.
