Xbox Game Pass Adding 2023 Open-World RPG on August 22

Xbox Game Pass Adding 2023 Open-World RPG on August 22

Highlights

  • Xbox Game Pass is adding Atlas Fallen on August 22.
  • Core Keeper is then coming to Microsoft’s subscription service on August 27.

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and apprehension as I gaze upon this latest lineup for Xbox Game Pass. August 2024 seems to be shaping up to be a rollercoaster ride of game releases, with the addition of Atlas Fallen on the 22nd and Core Keeper following suit on the 27th.

On August 22, Xbox Game Pass is set to incorporate the open-world role-playing game, Atlas Fallen. This title is slated to lead the relatively small second wave of games being added to the Xbox Game Pass library this month.

Since the start of this month, Microsoft’s subscription service has gained four new games. The most recent addition, “Mafia: Definitive Edition,” joined Xbox Game Pass on August 13th.

2 new games, Atlas Fallen and Core Keeper, have been added to Microsoft’s game library. Atlas Fallen will become available on August 22 via Xbox Game Pass, while Core Keeper is set to premiere five days later. It’s worth noting that the arrival of Atlas Fallen to Xbox Game Pass was recently confirmed, as the launch date for Core Keeper on this platform was previously announced in late July 2024.

SOPA: Tale of the Stolen Potato Is Missing From XGP August 2024 Wave 2 Lineup

Simultaneously, the game “Atlas Fallen” has been prematurely leaked on Xbox Game Pass, so neither title’s arrival is entirely unexpected. Both games will be playable on the Xbox Series X/S and PC. Interestingly, while there is an Xbox One version of “Core Keeper,” it’s not included in the second wave of additions to Microsoft’s subscription service in August 2024. However, they did confirm that both “Atlas Fallen” and “Core Keeper” will be accessible through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Notably absent from this Wave 2 lineup is “SOPA: Tale of the Stolen Potato,” which was earlier announced as a day-one XGP release, scheduled for August 2024. However, it still lacks a confirmed release date to date.

Initially, Atlas Fallen received an unenthusiastic response upon release. However, the game has seen a significant boost in popularity following a substantial free update called Reign of Sand. This is evident from the surge in positive Steam user reviews, with the shift from “Mixed” to “Mostly Positive” happening shortly after Reign of Sand was released on August 6. Deck13 Interactive, the developers, have referred to this update as the “definitive version” of Atlas Fallen, due to the addition of new areas, enemies, quests, and an overhauled progression system, among other innovations.

In August 2024, the number of games available on Microsoft’s gaming service will increase by two with the addition of Atlas Fallen and Core Keeper. However, it’s important to note that Xbox Game Pass has already bid farewell to four titles on August 15 and plans to remove another three from its library at the end of the month. This could potentially make August 2024 a slightly negative month for the service. Nevertheless, there’s always the possibility that Microsoft might unveil some unexpected releases, considering Gamescom 2024 is fast approaching and SOPA: Tale of the Stolen Potato is yet to announce its release date.
