Xbox Game Pass Adds 2022 Game With ‘Very Positive’ Reviews

Key Takeaways

  • Kung fu brawler Sifu was added to Xbox Game Pass on October 2.
  • Today’s catalog rotation also saw Open Roads and MLB The Show 24 join the Standard tier of Microsoft’s subscription service.
  • Three more titles have already been confirmed to be coming to Xbox Game Pass later this month.

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the addition of Sifu to the Xbox Game Pass library is nothing short of exhilarating. Having played this masterpiece on multiple platforms since its initial release, I’m thrilled to finally have it at my fingertips on my trusty old Xbox Series X.

Sifu has become part of the continually expanding collection within the Xbox Game Pass service. This popular fighting game represents the inaugural addition to the Xbox Game Pass lineup for October 2024.

Originally launched for PS4, PS5, and PC in February 2022, then subsequently on Switch and the most recent Xbox console generations in November 2022 and March 2023 respectively, Sifu – a martial arts fighting game crafted by French studio Sloclap – has garnered significant acclaim. Critics applaud its roguelike structure, intricate animations, and challenging yet gratifying combat mechanics, among other aspects. Currently, the game enjoys over 11,700 “Very Positive” Steam user reviews and a robust rating of “Strong” on OpenCritic, based on an average score of 81 and an 85% recommendation rate from reviewers. Thus, Sifu stands among the top-rated single-player action games in recent memory.

Sifu Joins Xbox Game Pass Standard Library With 2 Other Titles

18 months after its initial release on Microsoft’s consoles, Sloclap’s hit game Sifu was included in Xbox Game Pass on October 2. Since it didn’t launch on day one with the service, Sifu is accessible across all non-Core tiers of Xbox Game Pass, including PC, Standard, and Ultimate editions. Interestingly, Sifu is the first new title added to the subscription service since the start of October. Alongside Sifu, Microsoft’s October 2 update to their catalog also includes MLB The Show 24 and Open Roads, both now available in the Xbox Game Pass Standard library.

Xbox Game Pass October 2024 Release Calendar

Game Date Added Game Pass Tier Platform(s) Notes
🆕MLB The Show 24 Oct 2 Standard Console Available to Game Pass Ultimate subscribers since March 2024.
🆕Open Roads Available to PC Game Pass/Ultimate-tier subscribers since March 2024.
🆕Sifu Standard, Ultimate, PC Cloud, Console, PC

Initially, games such as “Open Roads” and “MLB The Show 24” were introduced on Xbox Game Pass in March 2024. However, due to Microsoft’s summer revamp of its subscription tiers, their availability became limited. The new XGP Standard membership doesn’t offer access to day-one releases. While existing console subscribers were grandfathered into the old plan, new XGP Standard members couldn’t play “MLB The Show 24” and “Open Roads” until today.

From now on, it’s important to note that new games added to Xbox Game Pass Standard may require up to six months from their initial release. However, there won’t be a standard timeline for these additions as Microsoft has stated that the time gap between games available for both Ultimate and Standard tiers will differ based on each individual case.

Moving forward with the subscription service, Xbox Game Pass is set to introduce “Mad Streets” on October 7. Subsequent additions include the Craftshop Arts-developed title “Inscryption” and “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6”, scheduled for October 10 and October 25 respectively. However, it’s important to note that five games will be removed from Xbox Game Pass on October 15: “Dyson Sphere Program”, “Everspace 2”, “F1 Manager 2023”, “From Space”, and “Scorn”.
