He has taken to the digital agora of X to dissect the ongoing debate surrounding Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and the XRP Ledger (XRPL). With a flourish, he highlights the technical advantages of XRPL’s transaction model, which, let’s be honest, is like comparing a Swiss Army knife to a rusty old spoon.

The Middle Child of Crypto

Elaborating further, Schwartz described XRPL as the middle child in the family of cryptocurrencies, caught between Bitcoin and Ethereum in terms of functionality and complexity. “XRPL occupies an intermediary position,” he explained, “with some of the advantages of Ethereum—like more complex functionality than Bitcoin—and some of Bitcoin’s perks, such as hardware wallets that can accurately predict transaction outcomes. But, alas, it also inherits some of their flaws: less functionality than Ethereum and more complexity than Bitcoin.” 🤷‍♂️

His comments were a reaction to a tweet from Pierre Rochard, the VP of Research at Riot, who had the audacity to question the differences between Bitcoin and Ethereum transaction processes. The audacity!

Bitcoin, in its simplicity, employs a UTXO (Unspent Transaction Output) model, allowing users to explicitly sign off on how their funds move from one output to another. It’s like a straightforward recipe: just follow the steps, and you won’t burn the house down.

Ethereum, on the other hand, dances to a more complex tune with its account-based model, intertwining simple fund transfers with the potential for intricate smart contract interactions. This complexity can lead to a user experience fraught with peril, especially for hardware wallets. Yet, from a user-experience perspective, Bitcoin’s simplicity shines like a beacon in the fog of confusion.
