In less than 24 hours since its launch on Kickstarter, the independently developed game titled “Monsterpatch” has already exceeded its financial goal. This means that we can expect a monster-collecting RPG to be available for PC by December 2025. The game takes cues from classic Pokemon titles and infuses elements of the popular farming simulation game, Stardew Valley. With its unique blend of creature combat and relaxing sim mechanics, “Monsterpatch” promises a strong dose of nostalgia for fans who enjoy such games.

In recent times, several games reminiscent of Pokemon have thrived, and Palworld is one of the standout newcomers that has captured the attention of Pokemon enthusiasts. The appeal of Palworld primarily lies in its innovative gameplay features not seen in the Pokemon series, while Monsterpatch aims to follow a similar approach by incorporating elements similar to those found in Pokemon, but currently absent from the games.

On March 25, 2025, the project Monsterpatch was debuted on Kickstarter and swiftly surpassed its initial funding goal of $15,000 in merely 16 minutes, amassing a noteworthy $74,000. As per the Kickstarter description, Monsterpatch is essentially an affectionate tribute to classic monster-collecting games and invites players to assume the role of a novice wizard, where they will catch and nurture magical beasts while learning potent spells, traversing a floating continent, and personalizing their hometown. The game Monsterpatch will blend RPG-style monster combat with farming and crafting mechanics reminiscent of Stardew Valley. Additionally, it will incorporate a Townsfolk recruitment system, mirroring the Animal Crossing game series, offering a distinctive gaming experience that offers a novel twist on the traditional Pokemon format.

Enhancing the resemblance between the upcoming game Monsterpatch and classic Pokemon games, this new title will employ retro top-down pixel graphics and customizable user interfaces for combat, farming, interaction, and more. The creatures known as MoNs will be divided into two of nine Houses, mirroring the Types that pocket monsters are sorted under. These Houses are named Fireborn, Atlantian, Overgrowth, Dragoon, Whimsical, Nightwatch, Brawler, Ironclad, and Mystic. Each House governs a city on the floating continent, with each House being ruled by a potent Archwizard who must be vanquished in monster combat. Players can select from six “starter” MoNs along with two companion creatures, as they strive to master their wizarding spellbook, personalize their town, and uncover the concealed mysteries of Monsterpatch.

As the release of Monsterpatch approaches, players eagerly anticipate its unique blend of capturing creatures and life simulation gameplay. However, some fans express concern that the game may resemble existing Pokemon titles too closely, potentially leading to legal action from Nintendo. Similar apprehensions arose before the launch of Palworld, which ultimately led to a lawsuit from Nintendo. Now, fans are keeping their hopes high that Monsterpatch will manage to debut without encountering any development or legal obstacles.
