Well, folks, guess what? In the last 27 days, North Korea’s very own hacking squad, the Lazarus Group, managed to pull off a transfer of 3,932 BTC—worth a mind-boggling $331.99 million! And even after this massive heist, they’re still sitting pretty as the third-largest nation-state bitcoin holder. Yeah, North Korea’s really making moves in the crypto world, who would’ve thought?
Lazarus Group’s Big 27-Day Bitcoin Shuffle
So, over the last month, the Lazarus Group—clearly too busy for vacation—has been busy moving their crypto stash. As of March 22, 2025, they were sitting on 13,332 bitcoin, which was worth a cool $1.12 billion. According to TopMob, they’ve been sending these coins to all sorts of mysterious addresses like it’s a game of “Where’s Waldo?” with bitcoin. In fact, some of these transfers are still happening today. Never a dull moment for the Lazarus team.
And if you think I’m exaggerating, check out this particular transfer they did. They took 9.9 BTC, split it into two chunks—5 BTC here, 4.9 BTC there—and then just kept sending it all over the place. It’s like they’re playing “hot potato” with Bitcoin. As of today, Lazarus now has 9,400 BTC left, still worth over $793 million. Guess they’re still in the game, huh?
And just so you know, North Korea is still sitting at #3 in the nation-state Bitcoin rankings. Yep, ahead of El Salvador and Bhutan (who’s probably wishing they had a bit more than just 7,697 BTC right about now). The U.S. is obviously at the top with a *tiny* stash of 198,012 BTC—worth $16.73 billion. But don’t worry, North Korea’s Lazarus is keeping the dream alive for them, just a little behind the U.K., with its meager 61,245 BTC.
Now, Bhutan’s not doing too well. They’ve gone from holding 10,635 BTC back in March to just 7,697 BTC now. Ouch. Looks like someone’s been having a “fire sale” on their Bitcoin. Meanwhile, El Salvador is still quietly accumulating Bitcoin one day at a time, like some sort of responsible crypto collector. Yawn. As for Lazarus, it’s all about moving fast, keeping things mysterious, and, let’s face it, probably making a lot of people uncomfortable. If they keep it up, they might lose their #3 spot, but, you know, if they’re backed by the government, who’s counting? Certainly not Lazarus!
