You Won’t Survive: Days Gone Remastered’s Insane New Mode Revealed

Summary

  • Days Gone Remastered will introduce Horde Assault, adding 10 hours of gameplay and 20+ weapons.
  • The new mode features game modifiers and rewards, expanding the original game experience.

The updated version of “Days Gone,” titled “Days Gone Remastered,” has recently disclosed more information and a revamped glimpse into its Horde Assault mode, which is one of the innovative elements included in the upcoming remake. Alongside the Horde Assault, the anticipated release of “Days Gone Remastered” on April 25, 2025, also includes two new modes: Permadeath and Speedrun.

Despite the initial tepid response when Days Gone was released exclusively for PS4 in 2019, it has since developed a passionate fanbase who have been eagerly waiting for a sequel. Unfortunately, these requests from Days Gone enthusiasts have gone unanswered so far. However, in February 2025, there was some encouraging news as a PS5-exclusive remaster of the original game was announced during the State of Play livestream. Now, Bend Studio is preparing to release an upgraded version of their zombie game titled Days Gone Remastered, which will include improved visuals and additional in-game content.

On the PlayStation Blog, Bend Studio unveiled that the freshly introduced Horde Assault mode adds around 10 extra hours to the original gameplay time of Days Gone. In this new game mode, players face progressively tougher swarms comprising Reachers, Breakers, and Rager bears, with the objective being to endure as long as possible and achieve a high score. The game offers over 20 assorted weapons like flamethrowers, and there are 24 Injectors, or gameplay modifiers, to pick from. Some of these Injectors include “Exploding Freakers,” which make Freakers explode upon death, and “Wanted,” which immediately sets the player on the highest difficulty level. Accompanying the post, the developers also shared a new trailer emphasizing Horde Assault, showcasing Deacon, Boozer, Rikki Patil, and others engaged in intense combat.

Days Gone Remastered Gives New Details About the Horde Assault Mode

The action-packed Horde Assault begins in the Cascade region within the Days Gone game map. Initially, players have just a single sidearm weapon at their disposal. Once they surpass the initial wave of enemies, they gain control of the Drifter bike, allowing them to roam the area in search of Supply Boxes. These boxes offer random weapons each time they are opened. The new game mode also introduces Side Jobs, which players can complete for additional resources and XP. Furthermore, it includes a 35-level reward path, enabling players to unlock an assortment of Injectors, cosmetic upgrades, and playable characters like O’Brian, Lisa, Skizzo, and more. Interestingly, Bend Studio hinted that one of these rewards is a much-anticipated item related to the player’s bike.

In about a month, the highly anticipated release of the remastered version of “Days Gone” for PS5 is approaching, and it’s no surprise that fans are getting increasingly excited. Although the remaster is exclusive to PlayStation, PC gamers should take heart as they too will gain access to these new game modes and additional content through the upcoming “Broken Road” DLC for the PC version of “Days Gone,” which is set to be released simultaneously.
