As a seasoned adventurer who has traversed countless dungeons and islands in the world of Hyrule, I must express my disappointment that Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom didn’t expand upon the fantastic Chamber Dungeon feature introduced by Grezzo in Link’s Awakening remake.
Following the successful remake of “Legend of Zelda’s” beloved title, “Link’s Awakening”, studio Grezzo has embarked on a new journey. Instead of revisiting familiar grounds, they are crafting an entirely fresh narrative with “Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom”. For the first time in the main series, players are immersed in a captivating story centered around Princess Zelda, complete with all the classic action-adventure elements they’ve grown fond of. While the game offers an exciting journey, it appears to lack one intriguing feature that “Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom” might have included.
In the updated version of “Link’s Awakening”, Grezzo introduced a new element called Chamber Dungeon. This tool allows players to design their own dungeons and challenge others to complete them. Despite its limitations, this feature was highly appreciated due to its long-standing significance in the series as dungeons have been a fundamental aspect of the franchise for years. The inclusion of “Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom”‘s Echoes could have elevated it further, but unfortunately, it wasn’t included in the final version.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Could Have Expanded the Chamber Dungeon Immensely
Zelda: Link’s Awakening’s Chamber Dungeon Was a Great Feature
As the triumphant waves of Super Mario Maker still echoed in my gaming world, I couldn’t help but wonder which beloved Nintendo franchises would embrace this innovative concept next. To my delight, the wait was brief, and Link’s Awakening stepped up to the plate, delivering on that promise with the introduction of Chamber Dungeons. In place of the Camera Shop, these dungeons served as a fresh type of side content that kept me engrossed for hours. I found myself not only crafting my own dungeons but also reaping rich rewards in the process, making each dungeon dive worthwhile and exciting.
The function was somewhat restrictive, allowing players merely to reorganize the rooms within pre-constructed dungeons. It might not have been the kind of game the creator of Zelda had in mind for some enthusiasts, but it indicated a willingness to delve into this idea. Future games could potentially expand upon this concept even more. However, it’s puzzling why Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom would abandon this feature entirely, especially since it initially started as a sort of dungeon creator.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Feels Tailor-Made for the Chamber Dungeon
In a recent “Ask the Developer” session at Nintendo, it was disclosed that an early conception for Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom involved a strong emphasis on designing custom dungeons. An initial version of the game provided Link with the power to replicate and position items to construct unique dungeons, serving as the main development focus. However, after a period of around a year, this concept was discarded in favor of the current Echoes experience, leaving the dungeon editing feature behind.
As the creator of this game over the past year, it feels odd that Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom lacks any Chamber Dungeon-like features, especially since Grezzo pioneered this concept within the Zelda franchise. It would have been fitting for their second project to further develop and enhance this aspect. Moreover, the arrival of Echoes could have provided an excellent opportunity to introduce a game-changing feature like this one.
In the game titled “Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom,” Princess Zelda is granted magical abilities that allow her to scatter various items throughout her adventure. If given a chance, players could have constructed remarkable dungeons, each with its unique theme. Perhaps one would focus on bed-related puzzles, another teeming with Bokoblins, or yet another a peaceful sanctuary filled with breakable pots at every turn. The creativity of the dungeon that players envisioned, “Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom” could have been the ideal platform to bring it to life. However, since this feature wasn’t included in the game, there’s hope that the next Zelda game developed by Grezzo will include such a feature.
