Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Details Dampe's Role in the Game

Key Takeaways

  • Dampe returns in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom as an engineer crafting Automatons for Zelda to use.
  • Each Automaton has unique effects when activated.

As a long-time Zelda fanatic who’s spent countless hours unearthing treasures and solving puzzles in Hyrule, I couldn’t be more thrilled about Dampe’s return in “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.” Dampe, the quirky gravedigger with a heart of gold, has always been a fan favorite, and his role as an engineer crafting Automatons is a delightful twist.

In their latest announcement, Nintendo has shared insights about Dampe’s role in the forthcoming title, “The Legend of Zelda: Whispers of Ages“. This upcoming release is the next chapter in the popular Nintendo series known as “The Legend of Zelda“. Dampe, a familiar character from earlier games, is expected to make an appearance in this new installment, tailored to fit with the game’s fresh mechanics.

Originally appearing in “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time,” Dampe is undeniably one of the series’ most peculiar characters. He’s a friendly, hunchbacked gravedigger who maintains the cemeteries that players explore throughout the games. Over the course of six mainline games before “Echoes of Wisdom,” Dampe has made appearances. In the 2019 Switch version of “Link’s Awakening,” Dampe played a significant role in introducing the customizable dungeon feature. In “Echoes of Wisdom,” Dampe reappears, this time taking on the role of an engineer.

In Nintendo’s latest tweet, it’s unveiled that in the newest Zelda adventure, Dampe assumes the role of an inventor crafting diverse Automatons. These Automatons can be set in motion and provide distinct effects when activated. Similar to his past appearances in the Zelda series, he is a benevolent character who wants to aid the hero in their quest for victory, taking great pride in his mechanical creations.

Dampe is an Automaton Engineer in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Previously showcased in the ‘Still World’ trailer from ‘Echoes of Wisdom’, Dampe was unveiled. The aforementioned trailer further explained the functioning of Automatons. Utilizing creatures roaming the world as models, Dampe constructs these Automatons. By winding up the key on their backs, Zelda can activate them, which in turn enables them to launch diverse abilities such as soaring skyward, emitting waves of musical notes that combat adversaries, or discharging straight-firing cannonballs. Different from the summons by Zelda, these Automatons may malfunction if they receive excessive damage.

In the game called Echoes of Wisdom, players may encounter various characters such as the Queen of Gerudo, a Goron passionate about fireworks, and a Great Fairy, along with other familiar figures. Interestingly, Zelda can also wield a sword, mimicking Link’s classic sword-and-shield gameplay using Echoes of Wisdom’s Swordfighter form. Throughout her quest to save Hyrule, Zelda has access to various tools, and players are encouraged to try them all when Echoes of Wisdom launches on September 26.
