2021 PS5 Exclusive Has Shut Down Forever (Out of Nowhere)

The PlayStation 5 exclusive game, Destruction AllStars, originally planned for the console’s launch, has been removed from sale and its servers shut down. While games are frequently discontinued, it’s unusual to see a platform-exclusive title like this disappear, especially without any prior notice to players.

Released in February 2021, Destruction AllStars was a car-combat game built for the PlayStation 5 where players battled each other. However, the game is no longer available to buy and its online multiplayer features have been discontinued. Players who have earned in-game points can redeem them until November 2026, but all online and live service elements have been removed, although the single-player arcade mode will remain playable for now.

Destruction AllStars Was Delisted and Shut Down in One Fell Swoop

Despite having trouble keeping players engaged since its launch, Destruction AllStars has been running for over five years, suggesting a small but dedicated community remained. Now, players are limited to the offline arcade mode, essentially leaving the game in a severely limited state – a real loss for anyone who still enjoyed it. Surprisingly, the game’s developer, Lucid Games, was still advertising job openings as recently as May 2026. It’s currently unclear how this shutdown will affect the studio’s future.

Platform shutdowns are always unfortunate, and it’s unusual when a major console maker has to do it. PlayStation, in particular, has closed down several of its online games recently, with Concord being a prominent example. However, the biggest issue is that these shutdowns often happen with very little notice.

This situation could create a worrying trend, similar to what happened with a Disney game recently. Developers sometimes shut down online games players have already purchased, without giving any notice. Even if a game isn’t popular, it’s simply good practice to warn players before taking it offline – it shows respect for the game, the studio, and the community. While some players might not be worried now, establishing this pattern means it’s likely to happen more often in the future.

In our review of Destruction AllStars, we noted it felt a bit thin and didn’t offer much to keep players engaged over time. However, like many online games, it has the potential to get better as the developers listen to players and add more substantial features. The game has a solid base – it runs well, looks good, and the basic gameplay is enjoyable – but it needs a lot more work to truly become a great experience.
