Dragon Ball: All 5 Saiyans Who Officially Surpassed Goku, Ranked

Many anime fans believe Goku is the strongest character in Dragon Ball, but that hasn’t been true for quite some time. Dragon Ball Super has especially highlighted that while Goku is powerful, he’s not the strongest fighter in the entire universe. Even within his own Universe 7, several other Saiyans have become more powerful than he is.

By the time Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero ends, Goku might be surprisingly less powerful than the other main Saiyans. While Goku is incredibly strong, especially now that he’s mastered Ultra Instinct, his friends are working harder than ever to become even stronger. The era of Goku being the undisputed strongest Saiyan in Dragon Ball is over.

5. Broly’s Full Power Far Surpasses Goku’s

Right now, Goku is considered stronger than Broly mainly because Broly struggles to manage his immense power. But in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103, Broly starts to gain control while accessing his powerful Legendary Super Saiyan form. Even without any training, Broly’s natural strength already surpassed Goku’s Super Saiyan God level.

In his Super Saiyan form, Broly was powerful enough to defeat Goku even when Goku was in Super Saiyan Blue. While Broly never battled Goku while Goku was using Ultra Instinct, the fact that Goku and Vegeta had to combine their power as Gogeta to fight Broly demonstrates that Broly could likely win against Ultra Instinct Goku if he had been fighting at his full strength.

4. Vegeta Defeated Goku Fair & Square in Their Finale Fight

In the finale of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Vegeta achieves a long-awaited victory over Goku in a fair fight. While Vegeta’s natural strength is a bit higher than Goku’s, he’s also become a more refined fighter. Unlike Goku, who’s overlooked fundamental training like meditation, Vegeta has fully committed to his development as a martial artist, ultimately allowing him to overcome his rival.

During the Granolah the Survivor Saga, Vegeta achieved his Ultra Ego transformation. Although it’s still not fully mastered – he didn’t even use it against Gohan Beast – even an incomplete Ultra Ego is powerful enough to close the gap between Vegeta and Goku in his Ultra Instinct form. Because Ultra Ego gets stronger the longer a fight lasts, Vegeta could potentially surpass Goku if they both fought at their absolute peak.

3. Gohan Beast Knocked Goku Out of Perfected Ultra Instinct

Gohan’s new Beast form, first seen in the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, makes him the strongest Z-Fighter when he’s not fused with anyone else. After the events of the movie, as shown in the epilogue of the Dragon Ball Super manga’s Super Hero Saga, Gohan travels to Beerus’ Planet and battles Goku, Broly, Vegeta, Goten, and Trunks.

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing – Gohan, in his Beast form, actually knocked Goku out of Perfected Ultra Instinct with one hit! It was clear this new form of Gohan was on another level – stronger, faster, and able to take more damage than even Goku’s perfected Ultra Instinct, which he’d worked so hard to achieve. It was so impressive, even Whis seemed to think Gohan could potentially replace Beerus as the God of Destruction for Universe 7!

2. Vegito Officially Surpassed Goku Again in Dragon Ball Super

A lot of Dragon Ball fans overlook the fact that Goku became stronger than Vegito when he achieved Super Saiyan God in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. The movie clearly establishes that even Vegito, created by the Potara Earrings fusion, wouldn’t have been able to defeat Beerus, which is why Goku had to undergo the God Ritual and become a Super Saiyan God.

Goku used to be stronger than Vegito, but that changed during the fight with Fused Zamasu. When Goku and Vegeta fused using the Potara Earrings, Vegito Blue emerged as an incredibly powerful fighter who easily overwhelmed Zamasu. However, Vegito’s power was actually too great for the Potara Earrings – they couldn’t handle the strain and caused the fusion to separate after only a few minutes. Had the Potara been more durable, Vegito could have potentially become strong enough to challenge even Beerus and Black Frieza.

1. Gogeta is the Most Powerful Saiyan in Existence

In Dragon Ball Super, Gogeta is considered the most powerful Saiyan and the strongest Fusion character. He’s even stronger than Vegito and, unlike Vegito, doesn’t have a time limit on his power, letting him maintain Super Saiyan Blue for up to thirty minutes. Gogeta perfectly combines Goku and Vegeta’s skills and abilities, creating a Fusion powerful enough to easily defeat opponents like Broly.

Some fans believe Gogeta is strong enough to challenge, and maybe even defeat, Beerus. As a fusion of Goku and Vegeta, he’s significantly more powerful than either of them individually. Just like Goku surpassed his limits with Vegito in Dragon Ball Z, he probably won’t be able to reach Gogeta’s level on his own. When the Dragon Ball Super manga continues, fusing into Gogeta could be the guaranteed way for Goku and Vegeta to finally beat Black Frieza.
