I’ve been checking out anime on different streaming platforms, and while Netflix, Crunchyroll, and Hulu have a lot to offer, I was surprised by what I found on Prime Video. It’s got some real hidden gems, and if you’re looking for something a little different to watch, it’s definitely worth exploring.
If you’re looking for highly-rated fantasy anime, Prime Video offers a great selection. You’ll find series with immersive worlds, creative magic, compelling characters, and plenty to keep you hooked. While Prime Video doesn’t have a huge number of fantasy anime, these are some of the best available right now.
5. Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s
An Underrated Yu-Gi-Oh! Entry
The anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s is set in a city split into two distinct areas: the wealthy Neo Domino City and the impoverished Satellite. Yusei Fudo lives in Satellite, and dreams of challenging his rival, Jack Atlas, who lives in Neo Domino City. Yusei wants to defeat Jack and take back his powerful card, the Stardust Dragon.
What sets this fantasy story apart is the introduction of “Signers” – characters linked to the Crimson Dragon by a unique birthmark. When these special individuals play a card game, they’re actually battling for the fate of the world, wielding supernatural powers granted by the Crimson Dragon. The addition of “Dark Signers” also makes this a darker and more intense installment in the Yu-Gi-Oh! series.
4. Tougen Anki
A Hidden Gem
Tougen Anki centers around Shiki Ichinose, who discovers he’s descended from demons after a confrontation with Momotaro, a member of a rival demonic bloodline. This revelation sends Shiki on a journey to understand his heritage and navigate his new life. While rooted in classic Japanese folklore, the series unfolds in a contemporary setting, exploring the world of demons and their powers.
With the first season of Tougen Anki debuting in 2025 and a second season coming in 2026, now is a great time to start watching! The story centers on Shiki Ichinose as he learns to master his demonic powers and cope with the loss of his father. If you enjoy complex power systems and emotionally driven stories of revenge, Tougen Anki is an excellent choice.

3. Inuyasha
A Classic Fantasy Entry
Inuyasha tells the story of Kagome Higurashi, who is transported to feudal Japan after falling down a well. There, she teams up with Inuyasha, a half-demon hoping to become fully demon, and the reasons for his wish are revealed as the story unfolds. While Kagome wants to return to her own time, her connection with Inuyasha and his companions makes it increasingly challenging.
I’m a huge fan of Inuyasha and its incredible fantasy world! It really centers around this amazing artifact, the Shikon Jewel, and all the incredible powers it holds. Plus, the show is packed with demons, cool sacred and cursed weapons, and all sorts of magical creatures. But it’s not just fantasy – if you’re a romance person like me, you’ll absolutely adore the relationship between Inuyasha and Kagome. It’s a slow burn, but so worth it!
2. Dororo
A Story of Survival and Friendship
Dororo tells the story of Hyakkimaru, a baby born without any body parts because his father, a samurai lord, made a deal with a demon for power. Hyakkimaru teams up with a young thief named Dororo, and together they journey across the land. With each demon Hyakkimaru defeats, he recovers a missing body part. Hyakkimaru also has a special supernatural sense that aids them on their adventures.
What makes Dororo truly special is how its main characters, Hyakkimaru and Dororo, develop over the course of the story. Hyakkimaru gradually discovers what it means to be human, learning to understand complex emotions like pain, empathy, and anger. Meanwhile, Dororo, who grew up struggling with poverty, realizes there’s more to life than just simply surviving as he forms a bond with Hyakkimaru.
1. Death Note
The Ultimate Psychological Thriller
Death Note centers around Light Yagami, an ordinary high school student whose life changes when he finds the Death Note – a mysterious notebook with the power to kill anyone whose name is written in it. This gives Light incredible power, allowing him to decide who lives and who dies.
The series Death Note features fantastical elements like the Shinigami, or death gods, and the Death Note itself – a notebook that lets Light kill anyone by simply writing their name and cause of death. Initially, Light aims to use the notebook to eliminate criminals, but he quickly becomes consumed by its power. The pursuit by the detective L dramatically alters his path, adding layers of emotional and psychological depth to the story.
