Batman has a lot of unresolved issues with characters like Harvey Dent, Penguin, Lady Arkham, and Catwoman, and he needs to deal with them to bring hope to Gotham City. This guide covers every decision you can make in the final episode of Batman: The Telltale Series – City of Light, explaining the outcomes of each choice and what Batman himself would likely do in those situations.
All Choices & Consequences in Batman Telltale Episode 5
| Choice | Decision (A) | Decision (B) |
|---|---|---|
| Throw the Coin or Pocket the Coin (Chapter 4 Wayne Enterprises choice) | [Throw the Coin] (Harvey will panic to get the coin back, and ends up knocking himself unconscious.) | [Pocket the Coin] (Harvey has a mental breakdown and gives up.) |
| Distract the Penguin (Chapter 4 Wayne Manor choice) | Your mother deserved Arkham! | You’re right. It’s my fault! (Gotham will hear about Bruce’s heroism.) | … (Bruce fails to help Gordon, who isn’t too happy.) |
| Blame or Forgive Alfred | You’re not to blame. (Alfred and Bruce reconcile, and things go back to normal between them.) | I wish you had. | … (Bruce does not forgive Alfred, straining their relationship, and putting guilt in Alfred’s old heart.) |
| Selina Kyle Leaves Gotham | You know that’s not true. (Selina and Bruce depart on good terms and can share one last kiss.) | That’s all you are. (Selina and Bruce depart on bad terms.) |
| Reveal or Hide Batman’s Identity to Vicki | [Remove Cowl] (Vicki discovers Bruce Wayne is Batman and disfigures his ear, but she dies anyway. Alfred realises he’s more important than Batman’s secret.) | [Attack Vicki] (Vicki removes Alfred’s eye, and she dies, never knowing Batman’s secret identity, but it proves to Alfred that Batman’s secret is more important than him.) |
| Attend Gordon’s Address as Bruce or Batman | [Attend as Bruce] (Bruce repairs his relationship with Gotham and can put more funding into the police or Arkham.) | [Attend as Batman] (The public and the GCPD have more trust and faith in Batman, making him a symbol of hope for the innocent.) |
| Stronger Police or Better Arkham (Attend as Bruce) | A stronger Gotham Police. (The GCPD receives better funding to tackle crime on the streets.) | A better Arkham Asylum. (Arkham receives more funding to help people with mental disorders.) |
Should You Throw or Pocket the Coin?
- [Throw the Coin] | [Pocket the Coin]
If you visited Wayne Enterprises in Episode 4, Episode 5 starts with a trip to the ruins of Wayne Manor. There, you’ll face Harvey Dent in a final showdown. He’s lost control and is now dangerously unstable, even willing to decide the fate of his own people with a coin flip.
If the episode starts this way, I recommend having Harvey’s coin tossed away. This will distract him as he tries to retrieve it, creating an opening for Bruce to attack. However, Bruce won’t even need to attack—Harvey will accidentally knock himself out by falling down the stairs.
More than half of players (55.3%) chose to throw Harvey’s coin. However, keeping the coin gives the same result – Harvey surrenders instead of being defeated.
Should You Distract the Penguin?
- Your mother deserved Arkham! | You’re right. It’s my fault! | We’re not done talking! | …
If you visited Wayne Manor in Episode 4, Episode 5 starts with you facing off against the Penguin at the park while pretending to be Bruce Wayne. The Penguin is attempting to lure out Batman, but so far, only the police are falling for his scheme. That makes Bruce Wayne the ideal person to get close to Cobblepot and figure out what he’s planning.
I suggest distracting the Penguin – it’s simple! Just choose dialogue options that will annoy him instead of staying quiet. If you say things to upset him, Gordon will get a chance to disable Penguin’s control over the drones.
76.9% of players managed to distract Penguin!
Should You Forgive Alfred?
- All that matters is fixing it. | I wish you had. | You’re not to blame. | …
Back at the Batcave, Alfred tries to share his feelings of guilt with Bruce, admitting he knew about Thomas Wayne’s wrongdoings but didn’t intervene. This moment will be a turning point for their relationship – either they’ll connect through honest conversation, or Bruce will distance himself from Alfred.
I decided to forgive Alfred because it wouldn’t make sense for Bruce to stay angry at the man who essentially raised him and kept him safe after his parents died. Alfred wasn’t responsible for Thomas’s actions, and he couldn’t have prevented them, so holding onto resentment wouldn’t make sense.
67.9% of players comforted Alfred and decided he wasn’t to blame.
Should You Leave Selina on Good Terms or Bad Terms?
- You know that’s not true. | That’s all you are.
Selina Kyle is leaving Gotham City, and it seems this time she’s leaving for good. This isn’t one of their usual games; it’s a final farewell. Bruce needs to accept that, for Selina, their relationship was just a job, and she doesn’t plan to return.
I told Selina she was wrong. She’s known for keeping people at a distance to protect herself, and she’s much more complex than just a thief. Bruce cares about her and always believes in the possibility of redemption, even for those who seem lost.
Telling Selina this gives you a chance for one final kiss, or you can simply let the moment fade. Most players – over 91% – saw Selina as more than just a thief!
Should You Reveal Batman’s Identity to Vicki Vale?
- [Remove Cowl] | [Attack Vicki]
Lady Arkham has taken Alfred hostage and is forcing Batman to unmask himself. While revealing his identity to someone like Vicki Vale could ruin the fear that keeps criminals in check, is protecting that secret worth Alfred’s life?
I chose to reveal my identity as Bruce Wayne to Vicki Vale. I made this decision both to protect Alfred and because saving innocent people is more important than keeping my secret. Besides, even if she tried, no one would likely believe Vicki, considering her unstable state.
Bruce will have a permanent scar on his ear, a decision made by most players (73.1%). If you keep your identity secret, Alfred will survive, but he’ll lose an eye.
Should You Attend as Batman or Bruce?
- [Attend as Batman] | [Attend as Bruce]
A new day dawns in Gotham, offering Bruce Wayne a chance to rebuild his family’s reputation and start over. With Gordon now the city’s police commissioner, he’s requesting support from Gotham’s leaders for a public address. But the question remains: who will truly champion the city – the wealthy businessman, or the mysterious Batman?
I went as Bruce Wayne because rebuilding his connection with Gotham City is crucial for many reasons. Plus, Batman doesn’t require public support to do what’s right, and it’s best if he remains separate from public view.
61.6% of players showed up to Gordon’s address as Bruce Wayne.
Should You Pick a Stronger Gotham Police or a Better Arkham Asylum?
- A stronger Gotham Police. | A better Arkham Asylum.
If you go to Gordon’s speech as Bruce Wayne, you’ll have a chance to address the citizens of Gotham and announce increased funding for either the Gotham City Police Department or Arkham Asylum. Bruce Wayne’s wealth is vital to the city, so the question is: where will it be most effective?
I decided to focus on improving Arkham Asylum instead of just throwing money at the GCPD. It feels more Bruce to really care about helping people with mental health issues, you know? Plus, it hits harder when you realize Arkham was the place his dad messed up – a way for him to actually fix his father’s mistakes. Honestly, dealing with police budgets and politics just doesn’t seem like something Bruce would want to get tangled up in.
