Anime frequently features characters who become unbelievably powerful, even reaching god-like status, which creates thrilling and intense storylines. While villains often seek godhood to gain power, even heroes can achieve it. Seeing these displays of immense power is always captivating, particularly when they’re tied to the unique rules and history of the anime’s world. Among all the characters who’ve reached this level, only a select few truly stand out as the most powerful.
8. Goku
- Anime: Dragon Ball
Goku began his journey as a young boy, searching for the Dragon Balls and eager for adventure. As the story unfolded, he became increasingly driven to grow stronger and push his limits. Following the original Dragon Ball series, Goku gained the power of the gods in Dragon Ball Super. This started with his first encounter against Beerus, where he unlocked God Ki, and he’s continued to evolve ever since.
Goku can transform into Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue by tapping into divine power. He’s even reached an even higher level called Ultra Instinct. As the story continues, Goku keeps getting stronger, and we can expect to see him unlock even more powerful, god-like forms in the future.
7. Rimuru Tempest
- Anime: That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime
Rimuru Tempest is a remarkably powerful anime hero, and fans enjoy him due to his incredible range of skills. While his growth towards becoming a god is gradual, the series increasingly highlights this journey.
By the series’ conclusion, Rimuru becomes unbelievably powerful, reaching a god-like level. He’s so strong that he could defeat even the most powerful characters from other anime.
6. Vegeta
- Anime: Dragon Ball
Goku and Vegeta consistently grow stronger at the same pace. After the original Dragon Ball story ended, Goku achieved God Ki, and Vegeta did too. He mastered Super Saiyan God and later Super Saiyan Blue. More recently, Vegeta unlocked a special ability called Ultra Ego, allowing him to harness the power of a God of Destruction.
These changes grant him power far beyond that of normal humans, and he’s still growing stronger as the Dragon Ball Super story unfolds. He may even unlock even more incredible, god-like forms in the future, which fans will surely love.
5. Sasuke Uchiha
- Anime: Naruto
Sasuke Uchiha is a key character in the Naruto series. He began his ninja training overshadowed by his older brother, Itachi. While naturally gifted, Sasuke worked hard to develop his considerable talent. Through dedication and strategic thinking in battle, he grew incredibly powerful, eventually mastering the rare and potent Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan.
Sasuke reached his full potential during the Fourth Great Ninja War when he encountered the Sage of Six Paths, similar to Naruto. The Sage questioned him and ultimately granted Sasuke a portion of his power – the Six Paths Yin Chakra. This essentially gave Sasuke half of a god’s power, making him incredibly strong, on par with characters like Madara Uchiha and Kaguya Otsutsuki. After the war, Sasuke continued to train, becoming powerful enough to fight opponents like Kinshiki and Momoshiki Otsutsuki all on his own. He is widely considered one of the most skilled users of divine power in anime.
4. Nerona Imu
- Anime: One Piece
In the world of One Piece, the Sun God Nika isn’t the only divine being. Nerona Imu, often considered the Devil himself, is another powerful God. Imu is divine in multiple ways: he’s the embodiment of the One Piece world’s Devil, wielding god-like powers, and he’s also a Celestial Dragon – a special group who consider themselves the world’s Gods.
Imu currently holds the position of world ruler, seated on the Empty Throne and effectively shaping the entire world order in One Piece. It’s predicted that a showdown between Imu and Monkey D. Luffy, who is destined to become the Sun God, will be the central conflict of the story’s final arc.

3. Griffith
- Anime: Berserk
I’ve always thought Griffith was one of the most fascinating villains in anime – truly someone you love to hate. What makes him so compelling is how well Kentaro Miura developed his character. He started with absolutely nothing, but through sheer determination and natural talent, he built himself up, along with his loyal Band of the Hawk, and reached the pinnacle of success. But then, after Guts left, everything began to fall apart, and Griffith made an unthinkable choice: he sacrificed everything – even the people who helped him get there – in pursuit of ultimate power.
I watched as Griffith transformed, eventually becoming Femto and joining the God Hand. He didn’t stop there, though – he built his own kingdom and amassed incredible, terrifying power. Even as the story of Berserk went on, I found his character becoming more and more complex, solidifying his place as one of the most compelling and powerful villains in anime, truly a god among them.
2. Naruto Uzumaki
- Anime: Naruto
Naruto Uzumaki is the main character of the Naruto series, and he began his story with very little. He wasn’t a particularly good student at the Ninja Academy, and it seemed unlikely he’d become a successful ninja. But through dedication and hard work, he achieved amazing things, eventually becoming incredibly powerful – even reaching god-like status during the Fourth Great Ninja War.
When Naruto Uzumaki met Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the revered Sage of Six Paths, he received half of Hagoromo’s chakra and unlocked the incredible power of Six Paths Sage Mode. This transformation made him powerful enough to battle formidable opponents like Madara Uchiha and Kaguya Otsutsuki. Although Naruto no longer possesses this full power, his story isn’t over, and he’s expected to return in the Boruto series.
1. Monkey D. Luffy
- Anime: One Piece
At the start of the One Piece story, Monkey D. Luffy began his quest to become the Pirate King. He gained a rubber body after eating the Gomu Gomu no Mi fruit. What he didn’t realize was that mastering the fruit’s powers would eventually transform him into something like a god.
During the Wano Country arc of One Piece, Luffy unlocked the full potential of his Devil Fruit power, transforming him into the legendary Sun God Nika. Nika’s abilities are incredibly strong, not only granting Luffy a flexible, rubber-like body, but also allowing him to turn his imagination into reality – a remarkably powerful ability within the world of One Piece.
