This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf arc.
Summary
- Holy Knights aren’t strong enough to be the main villains of Elbaf.
- Gaban is far stronger than the Holy Knights.
- The main villain will appear after Loki’s flashback.
The current storyline of “One Piece,” known as the Elbaf arc, is proving to be spectacularly engaging for viewers. People are absolutely captivated by the high-quality content that Oda is currently producing. Nevertheless, it’s important to acknowledge that this arc is currently leaving many fans a bit perplexed. Despite offering significant revelations about Elbaf, iconic characters, potent Devil Fruits, and thrilling skirmishes, the main antagonist remains shrouded in mystery for now.
It was widely thought for a long time that the Holy Knights were the primary antagonists of Elbaf in the One Piece series. However, it seems that this isn’t true according to chapter 1148. Fear not, though, as Oda has hinted at other parts of the story when the real threat to Elbaf will be revealed.
The Holy Knights Aren’t The Main Villains Of Elbaf
- The Holy Knights Aren’t Strong Enough To Be The Main Villains
- Gaban Is Far Stronger Than The Holy Knights
Initially, when the Holy Knights arrived at Elbaf, it was evident to many fans that they would be incredibly powerful. To this day, that assumption holds true for most characters in One Piece, including notable figures like Luffy and Admirals. For all intents and purposes, the Holy Knights and Five Elders are invincible to them. This is primarily due to their greatest asset: immortality. Through Egghead, Oda demonstrated the might of immortality with the Five Elders. Now, the Holy Knights have also exhibited this capability, making them seemingly undefeatable by most. However, it’s clear that immortality can be challenged, and One Piece chapter 1148 hinted at a possible solution to fans.
Burn down your schools and libraries and submit to the World Government! — Sommers
In One Piece Chapter 1148, it was thrilling to witness Scopper Gaban, the trusted right-hand man of Pirate King Roger, challenge the power of the Holy Knights and expose their vulnerabilities! This suggests that these three Holy Knights might not be our primary antagonists for two compelling reasons.
One reason for this situation is that one of the three has already fallen, leaving only two standing. However, since they’re evenly matched at the moment, neither of the remaining two will have enough strength to challenge Gaban. Therefore, it’s crucial that the other two are defeated promptly. It seems quite probable that this will unfold as planned.
Another explanation could be that the Monster Trio is currently in the Underworld, making it highly unlikely they won’t confront the primary antagonists or the storyline. Given this situation, it seems most plausible that these three Holy Knights are not the main villains of this tale.
The Main Villain Will Appear After Loki’s Flashback
It Could Be Shamrock Figarland or Someone Even Stronger
Fans might be curious to know the primary antagonist of Elbaf and when they will debut, but the response is straightforward. In terms of strength, the main antagonist must be powerful enough to engage in combat with Luffy and the Wings. Therefore, someone like Shamrock Figarland or someone even stronger fits the bill perfectly. It’s also possible that Imu themselves could be the villain, considering an Abyss has been established with Elbaf. Alternatively, it might be Loki, but in this scenario, Loki wouldn’t necessarily be a villain; instead, they would simply clash with Luffy before ultimately joining forces with him.

The Loki Flashback Will Be Dealt With First
Regarding when we can expect the primary antagonist of Elbaf to emerge, it’s straightforward: Initially, the three Holy Knights must be defeated because the children of Elbaf require rescue, which includes both the Straw Hat Pirates and the School and Library of Elbaf. After resolving this issue, conflicts in the Underworld need to be settled. Essentially, Loki’s imprisonment will be lifted, and viewers may witness flashbacks involving hai. Once these steps are completed, Oda will introduce the main adversary, and it’s likely that fans will see Luffy and Loki joining forces for a fight.
Get ready, One Piece fans! The next chapter, number 1148, will be published in just a week. In line with its regular schedule, it’ll arrive on Sunday worldwide. But remember, for our Japanese readers, the manga officially debuts at 12AM JST on Monday. For international fans like us, you can expect to read Chapter 1148 on May 11, 2025. Best of all, it’ll be free to enjoy on Manga Plus!
