As a dedicated Marvel fan, I’m thrilled to share that in 2022, Marvel Studios and Electronic Arts sealed a deal for a “multi-title partnership.” This exciting collaboration saw the studio taking on the development of three games, each centered around iconic Marvel superheroes. Two of these games have already been revealed: one is an Iron Man game, being developed by EA Motive, and another is a Black Panther game from Cliffhanger Games. I can’t wait to see what other surprises this collaboration holds!
Although it’s confirmed that the Iron Man game will feature an open-world environment, details about both titles have been scarce until now. However, today, we finally have some updates.
IGN is reporting that EA has canceled the Black Panther title and closed Cliffhanger Games.
In a message to the team, Laura Miele, president of EA Entertainment, acknowledged that the decisions being made are challenging. She emphasized that these choices impact individuals they’ve collaborated with, learned from, and shared special moments with. To offer assistance, they are making every effort to support them by exploring opportunities within EA, where they have a track record of helping people transition into new roles.
In addition, Miele indicates that they are choosing to direct their creative resources and vigor towards alternative ventures.
EA Cancelling the Black Panther Game Comes Following Layoffs at Respawn Entertainment
Following a string of layoffs at Respawn Entertainment last month, it was announced that both “Black Panther” and Cliffhanger Games will be shut down. Respawn is renowned for its Titanfall series and the hit Battle Royale game Apex Legends. Additionally, EA has decided to terminate the development of EA Sports WRC, which was previously known as DiRT.
Battlefront 2, there are speculations that EA might be planning a return to this franchise.
The team behind Battlefront 2 is hoping to reunite and continue their work, but it seems more wishful thinking than a realistic possibility, considering the current state of the gaming industry, which has seen numerous layoffs and calls for employees to return to the office. It’s uncertain what the future holds for Battlefront or any other EA franchise given these circumstances, as even popular games like Marvel Rivals haven’t escaped the impact of job losses.
