2026 will see the continuation of the Gears of War saga with the release of its prequel, Gears of War: E-Day. This instalment, which takes place 14 years before the original Gears of War and 42 years prior to Gears 5, follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as they experience the Locust’s surface invasion on Emergence Day firsthand. The upcoming game, Gears of War: Reloaded, will reacquaint both long-time Gears players and new PlayStation enthusiasts with the Gears universe through a remake of the initial Gears of War title. However, there are still many details to be revealed about Gears of War: E-Day.
To date, only one trailer for “Gears of War: E-Day” has been unveiled, showcasing Marcus Fenix battling a Locust Drone amidst the Locust Horde’s attack on Kalona. This trailer indicates that The Coalition is bringing back at least one iconic weapon from past games – the Mark 1 Lancer Assault Rifle or Retro Lancer – for “E-Day”. Given that “E-Day” is the earliest game in the “Gears” series timeline, it’s possible that many weapons from current titles may not be included, but there’s a strong expectation that some iconic weapons will make a comeback in both the campaign and multiplayer of “E-Day”.
Which Weapons Should Return in Gears of War: E-Day?
Possible Returning COG Weapons in E-Day
In every Gears of War title, Coalition of Ordered Governments-made weapons are frequently seen and prove effective throughout the series. Given that E-Day is anticipated shortly after the COG concluded their battle with the Union of Independent Republics (the Pendulum Wars), it’s plausible to assume many traditional COG weapons will resurface in E-Day. Notable classic COG weapons encompass:
- Mark 2 Lancer Assault Rifle
- Gnasher Shotgun
- MX8 Snub Pistol
- Sawed-Off Shotgun
- Bolo Grenades
- Longshot Sniper Rifle
- One-Shot
- Mulcher
- Mortar
- Vulcan Gatling Gun
- Tripwire Crossbow
- Scorcher Flamethrower
In E-Day, it’s plausible that some weapons seen only in a few Gears games could be present, considering the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) was at its peak military strength on Emergence Day.
Possible Returning Locust Weapons in E-Day
30 years prior to Emergence Day, the Locust had been secretly thriving in subterranean realms known as the Hollow. During this period, they established a unique culture, society, and weaponry, primarily designed to combat the relentlessly hostile Imulsion-altered creatures called the Lambent. Although many of their weapons were repurposed COG and UIR armaments, they also crafted their own lethal tools that became iconic in the Gears of War series.
- Hammerburst Assault Rifle
- Boltok Pistol
- Boomshot Grenade Launcher
- Torque Bow
- Troika Heavy Machine Gun
- Digger Launcher
- Gorgon Submachine Guns
- Ink Grenades
- Butcher Cleavers
- Breechshot
Since the Locust were at their strongest on Emergence Day, it seems logical that they would deploy all their weaponry in Gears of War: E-Day.
Possible Returning UIR Weapons in E-Day
In the upcoming game titled “Gears of War: E-Day“, since it is set toward the close of the Pendulum Wars, there’s a possibility that The Coalition might incorporate the UIR (Locust Insurrection Resistance) in some manner within the game. Starting with “Gears of War: Judgment“, the UIR has gradually been more prominent in recent “Gears” games, enabling “E-Day” to include an initial mission involving Marcus Fenix battling UIR remnants or even depicting UIR remnants engaging Locust forces. Moreover, modern “Gears” titles have been introducing UIR-manufactured weaponry; many, if not all, of these weapons would be suitable choices to reappear in “E-Day“. Examples include:
- Booshka Grenade Launcher
- Markza Mk 1 Marksman Rifle
- GZ18 Markza Sniper Rifle
- Hammer of Dawn
