It looks like the game collection on Nintendo Switch Online could expand to include Super Smash Bros., based on a small hint dropped by Nintendo that was noticed by a sharp-eyed enthusiast.
The origin of the alleged leak is a detailed analysis video about the newly announced N64 Switch Online features that Nintendo unveiled alongside the Switch 2, which was first posted in late May 2025. This video highlights enhancements such as the CRT filter, custom control mapping, and rewinding capabilities.
In addition to other suggestions made in the promotional video, there seems to be a subtle clue that the game “Super Smash Bros.” might be coming to the service. This observation was initially shared by Reddit user Starfox6664. During a segment discussing the Nintendo Switch Online CRT filter, a new setting toggle is briefly displayed over a blurred background featuring artwork from the NSO’s N64 library. At around the 40-second mark, something in the bottom-right corner of this segment resembles the cover art for “Super Smash Bros.” Notably, the blurry art contains the game’s tricolor logo and a large yellow shape that matches the location of Pikachu in the original artwork.
Nintendo Possibly Leaked Another N64 Classic’s NSO Release
Starfox6664 quickly spotted an intriguing detail in Nintendo’s video about the N64 NSO feature, which was posted not long ago. More recently, Reddit user LukePS7013 noticed something else in that same clip – a fuzzy image that looks like it could be the cover of the game ‘Glover’. Released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, ‘Glover’ was remastered in February 2025 and is available on the Switch. Interestingly, games like ‘Glover’ have appeared both on the eShop and through NSO, as demonstrated by titles such as ‘Shadow Man’ and the first two ‘Turok’ games.

Compared to subsequent games in the series, the initial “Super Smash Bros.” game is distinctive due to its extended combos facilitated by higher stun rates. Although this could make it somewhat more challenging compared to later releases, it continues to deliver an enjoyable experience that younger platform fighter enthusiasts will likely enjoy. Its reputation alone makes it a strong contender for inclusion in the NSO (Nintendo Switch Online) library.
Despite Nintendo possibly unintentionally revealing plans for adding Super Smash Bros. to the Switch Online catalog, it’s uncertain when this potential addition might occur. Nintendo irregularly adds new games to their NSO library without any discernible pattern. The last N64 game added was Killer Instinct Gold on May 16, while Shadow Man and Ridge Racer 64 were introduced in October of an unspecified year.
