How To Get Shiny Bagon in Pokemon GO

Bagon is a Pokemon type that resembles a dragon, capable of transforming into the pseudo-legendary Salamence in the game Pokemon GO. This creature has been available in the game since the “Hoenn Celebration” event back in 2018, with Shiny Bagon being introduced on April 13, 2019 during a Community Day. To find Shiny versions of Bagon, participating in Community Days is highly beneficial. However, you should also keep an eye out for events that boost the appearance rate of specific Pokemon as these can help you in your search. For instance, the “Ultra Unlock: Steel and Scales” event scheduled for July 2025 will feature Honedge and its evolutions for the first time. In addition to this debut, expect to encounter more Steel-type and Dragon-type Pokemon during this event, among them being Bagon. Therefore, it’s suggested that you hunt for Shiny Bagon while the event is ongoing.

Where to Find Shiny Bagon

Ultra Unlock: Steel and Scales, July 2025

During the “Ultra Unlock: Steel and Scales” event, there’s a higher probability of finding Shiny Bagon and Shiny Beldum. Unlike some Lures such as Magnetic or Glacial Lures, they don’t affect Dragon-type Pokemon like Bagon. However, placing a Lure Module on a nearby PokeStop could potentially boost the number of Bagon you encounter during this event. Using an Incense while Shiny Hunting can also be beneficial. For the best results, it’s better to move around instead of staying in one spot to increase your chances of finding multiple Bagon.

In the year 2025, starting from July 22nd at 10am local time and ending on July 27th at 8pm local time, you’re likely to encounter Bagon more frequently than usual. And remember, there’s a chance that the one you find might be Shiny! However, unlike its Community Day in April 2024, it won’t appear in large groups.

To speed up your Shiny Hunting process, consider activating the Augmented Reality (AR) feature. Navigate to the Settings menu, then select AR, and move the toggle to the ‘on’ position. Another option is to pick a Pokemon and activate AR mode by adjusting the slider located at the top-right corner of your screen.

In contrast to other encounters, such as raids, you can find the radiant Pokémon, Bagon, freely roaming in the wild during the event “Ultra Unlock: Steel and Scales”. It’s not classified as a 1-star or 3-star Raid Boss for this specific occasion.

Should You Evolve Shiny Bagon?

How to Get Shiny Shelgon and Shiny Salamence

To transform Shiny Bagon into Shiny Shelgon, you’ll need to use 25 pieces of Bagon Candy. Transforming Shiny Shelgon into Shiny Salamence requires 100 Bagon Candy. If you wish to advance further, you can Mega Evolve your Salamence into Mega Salamence by spending 300 Mega Energy initially, and then 60 Mega Energy for each subsequent Mega Evolution.

Need more Bagon Candy? Consider giving it a Raspberry or a Silver Raspberry prior to capturing it. Doing so will slightly boost the Candy count.

As your Bagon becomes more advanced (evolves), it will unlock the possibility of having a shiny Shelgon and Salamence in your “Shiny” Pokédex. If you plan to use Shiny Salamence for competitions or battles with other trainers, it would be beneficial to evolve a higher-rated Shiny Bagon (3-star) rather than a lower one (0/1-star).

As a Dragon/Flying-type Pokemon, Salamence is vulnerable to Rock, Ice (fourfold weakness), Dragon, and Fairy-type attacks. To capitalize on its type, or provide it with versatility, you might want to arm it with Fast Attacks and Charged Attacks that make use of its typing or offer coverage against various types of opponents.

Here are some combinations to try:

Fast Attack Charged Attack Damage (Trainer Battles) Damage (Raids)
Dragon Tail (Dragon-type) *Outrage (Dragon-type)
  • Fast: 13
  • Charged: 110
  • Fast: 14
  • Charged: 110
Fire Fang (Fire-type) *Outrage (Dragon-type)

  • Charged: 110
  • Fast: 13
