Fans of the upcoming game “Sonic Racing: CrossWorld” are expressing some disappointment about the pre-order bonus. This year will also see the release of another Sonic the Hedgehog racing game, with “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds” offering a diverse cast of characters from various Sega franchises. Additional playable racers will be added post-launch, including collaborations with games such as Persona 5, Yakuza, and Minecraft.
As an excited fan, I can’t wait to share some fantastic news about the upcoming game, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds! For those who pre-order, there are two special bonuses in store. One is the iconic Blue Star Extreme Gear hoverboard from Sonic Riders series, which Sonic will be using in the game. The second bonus is even more thrilling: the Werehog from Sonic Unleashed of 2008! Remember, this was the game where Sonic transformed into a werewolf-like creature to combat Dark Gaia and save the world. The pre-order pack centered around the Werehog comes with an exclusive Beast Spike car for Sonic to drive as he races through the dimension-hopping courses in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Can’t wait to get my hands on these awesome goodies!
While having the chance to play as the Werehog in Sonic Unleashed delights fans, some are voicing concerns over Sega’s choice to offer this pre-order bonus content for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. As reported by Comicbook, numerous Twitter users question why Sega didn’t just include the Werehog and his vehicle within the main game itself, given that most of the announced DLC focuses on characters from other series. Some have even gone as far as to deem this decision “unacceptable for a $70 game.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorld’s Werehog Has Fans Divided
A point of disagreement arises regarding the absence of voice acting for the Werehog character, as shown in gameplay clips from the previous _Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds_. Unlike the rest of the game’s characters who are fully voiced and can engage in conversation before races, the Werehog remains silent during actions like collecting power-ups or jumping over ramps. This is unusual because Roger Craig Smith, the current voice actor for Sonic, has not provided any new lines for the Werehog, nor have there been any recycled audio from Jason Griffith’s performance in _Sonic Unleashed_.

One Twitter user drew a parallel between this situation and how Sonic X Shadow Generations featured Keanu Reeves providing new lines as Shadow the Hedgehog for that game’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3-inspired DLC. Given that Keanu Reeves is a costly actor and the presumably limited budget of Sonic X Shadow Generations compared to Sonic Racing: Cross Worlds, this decision has left many fans baffled by Sega, who have yet to address any of these issues. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is slated for release on most major platforms on September 25, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version expected during the 2025 holiday season.
