A skilled admirer of both Pokémon and Metroid has posted a fan creation that appears as if it was pulled directly from a ‘90s gaming periodical. The vintage artwork has fans reminiscing about the early era of Pokémon and Metroid.
In formal Nintendo games, you rarely see Pokemon and Metroid characters combined, but an exception is the Super Smash Bros series. Although many game characters have been included in this franchise, Pikachu and Samus had a special connection particularly in Super Smash Bros. Brawl’s Adventure Mode, The Subspace Emissary. This new fan art depicts them working together once more, though this time for a sweeter purpose.
Fan Gaspard90s, who loves both Pokemon and Metroid, has posted a fan-made piece of art featuring diminutive Pikachu and Samus cooperating around an old Game Boy. The illustration shows Pikachu connecting what seems to be a battery jumper cable to its cheek, with the other end offered to Samus. In response, Samus is extracting one of the Game Boy’s loose batteries from her arm cannon, likely for recharging by Pikachu. The artist clarified in a comment that the artwork was made on paper using watercolors and later scanned, giving it an authentic, nostalgic aesthetic similar to classic Pokemon watercolor art created by Ken Sugimori, the franchise’s original artist.
Pokemon and Metroid Fans Celebrate Cute Artwork
Many people have admired Gaspard90s’s fanart, appreciating their unique style that closely resembles traditional official Pokemon artwork. One viewer was thrilled to find the vintage depiction of Pikachu, affectionately known as “Chubby Pikachu.” Most were taken aback when they learned it wasn’t an advertisement from the 1990s but fan-made art instead. For those who grew up in that era, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine this artwork gracing the pages of a gaming magazine, advertising the games or even the Game Boy.
As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but feel the thrill coursing through my veins as we approach the horizon of new adventures! The Pokemon Presents on July 22 unveiled fresh games and exciting insights into the upcoming “Pokemon Legends: Z-A,” slated for October 16, 2025. The long-awaited return of Metroid Prime 4 is also scheduled for 2025, but it’s still a mystery when exactly we’ll get our hands on it. With the year already halfway gone and no more announcements to speak of, fans like me are starting to wonder if this legendary game might be delayed once again.
