New Wonder Woman Movie Gets a Promising Update Signaling DCU Project Is in Safe Hands

Following the box office triumph of Superman, an intriguing development has emerged regarding the upcoming Wonder Woman film within the DCU. Created in 1941 as a character for All Star Comics, Wonder Woman (also known as Princess Diana of Themyscira and Diana Prince) is a demigod and Justice League member. Previously depicted by Lynda Carter on TV series during the ’70s and Gal Gadot in multiple projects such as Zack Snyder’s Justice League, it’s now time for a new actor to wield the Lasso of Truth.

Regrettably, Wonder Woman almost had her own video game, joining a lineup of other superhero games that didn’t make it to release, such as Cliffhanger Games’ open-world Black Panther action-adventure, Warner Bros. Games Montreal’s Batman Beyond project for the Arkhamverse, and Factor 5’s Blue Steel, which was believed to be a much-anticipated modern Superman game. The announcement of Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman game sparked excitement among fans, but unfortunately, the game was cancelled this year following the developer’s dissolution.

DCU’s Wonder Woman Movie Hires Supergirl and Teen Titans Writer Ana Nogueira

According to TheWrap’s latest report, Ana Nogueira has been assigned to write the upcoming Wonder Woman reboot for DC Studios. This news is generating buzz among comic book enthusiasts, as Nogueira is also working on a live-action Teen Titans movie for the studio, in addition to having already scripted Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock from House of the Dragon, marking her first produced screenplay based on Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. In June, James Gunn confirmed that the script for the DCU’s Wonder Woman project was underway, and he also mentioned that the Paradise Lost series, focusing on Diana’s homeland Themyscira, is progressing slowly but steadily. Notably, Nogueira has previously acted in shows like The Vampire Diaries and The Blacklist, and given her involvement in multiple DC projects, it seems Diana Prince is in capable hands with someone who can bring a fresh perspective to these iconic characters.

In the world of superheroes, fans have been actively discussing and debating who might take over as Wonder Woman after Gal Gadot, with many favoring an actor from “Andor.” Artist renderings even show Adria Arjona in the role of Diana. Other contenders include Melissa Barrera from “Scream” and May Calamawy from “Moon Knight.” However, a spark of speculation has been lit as director James Gunn recently followed Katherine Langford from “13 Reasons Why,” leading some to believe that the 29-year-old actress could be in line for the role of Princess Diana.

Although the Snyderverse-era Wonder Woman film by Patty Jenkins was quite successful, its sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, did not receive positive reviews. In fact, Pedro Pascal, who portrayed villain Maxwell Lord in the movie, has openly discussed making significant physical changes post-1984. Given that Gunn and the DC Studios team appear to be favoring younger versions of Justice League characters, as demonstrated by David Corenswet’s youthful Clark Kent and Aaron Pierre’s Jon Stewart for the upcoming Lanterns, it seems likely that the casting for Wonder Woman will also prioritize a younger actress.
