Overwatch 2 Dating Sim Comes With a Big Catch

Recently, Overwatch 2 introduced a new dating simulation game called “Loverwatch,” featuring characters like Cassidy, D.Va, Genji, Junker Queen, Juno, Lifeweaver, and Mauga. Unfortunately, this game is only accessible in China at the moment. There’s hope that it might become available worldwide someday, but for now, it remains unavailable outside of China.

On Valentine’s Day 2023, the anticipated release of Overwatch 2 delighted fans with a brief dating simulation dubbed as Loverwatch. This amusing game offered storylines for characters Genji and Mercy, steered by Cupid Hanzo. Players were able to download and enjoy this short-lived experience during the event, and even earned in-game cosmetics as a reward for participating.

Currently, the much-anticipated sequel to Overwatch, titled Overwatch 2, has been rolled out, albeit not accessible worldwide yet. In an exciting turn of events, China recently initiated a temporary event for Overwatch 2, introducing a unique spin-off from the original game – a Loverwatch dating sim. This special edition features seven distinctive characters from Overwatch 2: Genji, Juno, D.Va, Mauga, Lifeweaver, Junker Queen, and Cassidy, each illustrated with exclusive artwork. To add to the excitement, a trailer for this event was released by Overwatch Cavalry on Twitter, emulating the style of a classic romantic anime opening.

New Overwatch 2 Loverwatch Dating Sim in China

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been keeping an eye on Libtan90’s tweets about their journey with Overwatch, and it seems that, unfortunately, the wide variety of outfits sported by the characters in Loverwatch aren’t available as skins in Overwatch 2. However, there’s a silver lining: players can earn unique name cards for completing character routes and even select a free skin for the main characters!

Currently, only Chinese players can access this game, and there’s no news about international versions yet. It’s uncertain whether or when this might change, but theoretically speaking, Overwatch 2 might astonish fans with a worldwide release on Valentine’s Day 2026. However, until Overwatch 2 makes an announcement regarding global availability, players should manage their expectations, as it could equally remain exclusive to China.

In Season 18, starting on August 26, we’ll see the arrival of Wuyang, the Chinese water-themed character who was previously known as “Aqua” in Overwatch 2. However, players can test out Wuyang ahead of his official release from August 14 to August 18 during a trial period. This means that details about his abilities and background will likely be revealed before then. While international fans may not get to play the new version of Overwatch, they can eagerly anticipate the introduction of another Chinese hero in Overwatch 2 in the coming days.
