The following contains spoilers from the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga and anime.
Over the course of more than a thousand years, Demon Slayers have been battling demons. For most of this time, members of the Demon Slayer Corps have had to come up with creative strategies just to stand a chance against these demonic foes. However, everything shifted during the Sengoku period when Yoriichi Tsugikuni was born bearing a mysterious emblem.
During his time, he rose to become an exceptional swordswoman, and at last, the potent Demon Slayer Mark was acknowledged by others of his generation. While these enigmatic markings were viewed as a blessing during the Taisho era, their true, dark nature was eventually exposed as demon slayers clashed with the Upper Moons within the Infinity Castle.
The Mysterious Powers of the Demon Slayer Mark
The Mark Gives Swordsmen Access to Incredible Powers But at a Huge Cost
- Manga Debut: Chapter 94
- Anime Debut: Episode 43
The Mark of the Demon Slayer emerges under particular circumstances, granting its user extraordinary abilities. This mark enhances physical prowess to such an extent that even Hashira can overcome Upper Moons in favorable situations. In addition, those who bear it gain astonishing speed that was beyond their reach before.
When the marked one arrives, the mark will appear on others around that person as if in resonance.
The Mark of Demon Slayer can additionally unlock the Vibrant Scarlet Nichirin Sword, a weapon that noticeably hinders a demon’s ability to heal. Nevertheless, it is noted that the extent of this healing impediment varies among the sword’s wielders.
The remarkable skill that those bearing the mark can employ is known as Transparent World. This ability lets them peer through an enemy, making their skin seem see-through, revealing crucial details about their internal organs, health, and vulnerabilities. When fully harnessed, users of the Demon Slayer Mark transform into fearsome combatants. In some instances, they are even capable of matching demons like Kokushibo in battle.
Infinity Castle Trilogy is All Set to Reveal Demon Slayer Mark’s Ugly Truth
The Demon Slayer Mark appears to be a boon as it bestows extraordinary abilities upon a sword-wielder. At first glance, this power seems like an invaluable asset. However, beneath the surface lies a perilous curse that casts doubt on whether or not accepting such a mark is truly advantageous.
When a warrior develops the mark, they acquire extraordinary powers at a high cost. The possessor of the mark always passes away before reaching 25 years old. However, if a sword-wielder activates their mark past the age of 25, they will not survive for long, living only a few hours more.
Although the manga doesn’t provide a reason, we can infer an educated guess given what we already know. Getting a Demon Slayer Mark necessitates keeping one’s body temperature above 39°C and heart rate over 200 beats per minute, which is described as a near-death experience by those who bear the mark. It’s understandable that such intense physical strain might have lasting effects on the body.
It’s important to point out that while most people who have the mark typically don’t live past 80, there are two exceptions. For instance, Yoriichi Tsugikuni, despite using the mark throughout his life, lived much longer than average. However, it could be argued that he never truly ‘awakened’ the mark but was simply born with it as a rare exception. On the other hand, Michikatsu, Yoriichi’s brother, transformed into a demon to avoid dying at 25, which is another exception to the rule.
It appears that one can break free from the Demon Slayer Mark’s dreadful fate. A person born or later manifesting this mark is destined to become a demon in order to survive, as these seem to be the only instances where the mark’s curse has not led to the bearer’s demise.

As more Demon Slayer Corps members display the mark within the Infinity Castle, unknowingly, they are paving the way for an untimely demise. It is only when they encounter Kokushibo that they will come to understand the grim reality of their predicament.
In a potential turn of events, the Upper Moon intends to exploit the situation and psychologically unsettle them. It’s uncertain how the Demon Slayers will respond, given their possible surprise at encountering this chilling truth, particularly Gyomei Himejima, who is expected to receive the mark upon reaching the age of 25.
On September 12, 2025, I’ll be eagerly waiting in line for the premiere of the initial part of the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy right here in the United States.
