At this year’s Gamescom 2025 (August 20-24), attendees in Cologne, Germany, will get a chance to be among the first to try out demos for Hollow Knight: Silksong, as well as the new versions of ROG Xbox Ally handhelds. The highly anticipated release of Hollow Knight: Silksong, the sequel to Team Cherry’s 2017 Metroidvania game Hollow Knight, has been generating a lot of excitement among fans, who have been eagerly awaiting updates about the upcoming sequel.
For Hollow Knight enthusiasts, the event demo is a massive revelation since Hollow Knight: Silksong was absent from Gamescom in 2024, causing quite a stir among fans eagerly anticipating news about the game. The prospect of updates on Hollow Knight: Silksong has even become a recurring joke within the community, with each new reveal or absence fueling fresh memes and jokes on social media. Fortunately, attendees at Gamescom 2025 will finally get the chance to play the long-awaited game that fans have been yearning to experience for over eight years.
From August 20th to 24th, attendees at the Xbox booth can play a new demo for Hollow Knight: Silksong on either the ROG Xbox Ally or ROG Xbox Ally X. For those who can’t make it to the event, live broadcasts from Gamescom will offer a sneak peek of the demo on August 20th and 21st. This is the first chance for people to try out both Hollow Knight: Silksong and the new handheld devices, which are expected to be released in late 2025. Earlier news about a playable demo for Hollow Knight: Silksong was only known from an Australian museum exhibit scheduled for mid-September.
A Demo for Hollow Knight: Silksong Will Be Playable at Gamescom 2025

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share some news about Hollow Knight: Silksong, which Xbox unveiled during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8. There was some buzz that the game might be delayed to coincide with the release of the new ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, but Team Cherry set the record straight โ it won’t be a launch title for these consoles. The marketing manager for Team Cherry, Matthew Griffin, hinted that we could expect Hollow Knight: Silksong before Christmas, though an exact release date hasn’t been confirmed yet. Stay tuned!
As a hardcore gamer, I’m super hyped about the playable demo of Hollow Knight: Silksong! However, since I can’t make it to Gamescom this year, I’ll have to exercise a little more patience to get my hands on the game. Fingers crossed that Team Cherry drops the demo for everyone post-Gamescom, which wraps up on August 24. Earlier this month, eagle-eyed fans spotted some intriguing manual updates on the Hollow Knight: Silksong Steam page, leading us to believe that Team Cherry might be readying a major update.
