Pokemon GO’s Dynamax Raids May Be No Coincidence With Pokemon TCG Pocket’s A4a Set

The way to play Dynamax in Pokemon Sword and Shield has also been incorporated into Pokemon GO for over a year now. However, due to the fact that Dynamax Pokemon are typically associated with seasonal updates and can be hard to get, especially for trainers below level 13, not all players have had the chance to catch their desired ones. Fortunately, during Pokemon GO’s Dark Skies event, players were able to encounter every single Dynamax Pokemon that has ever been introduced in the game, but only for a limited time.

According to Niantic’s recent announcement, the Dark Skies event that took place from August 18th to 23rd enabled players to engage in Max Battles and battle various Dynamax Pokémon sets based on the specific day. On August 18th, players could only encounter Gen 1 starters such as Squirtle and Legendaries like Latios within the first set of Dynamax creatures. Meanwhile, the remaining two sets were accessible from August 19th-20th and August 21st-22nd respectively. Although players can no longer encounter Dynamax Pokémon during the Dark Skies event, they now have an opportunity to participate in some new raid battles and catch a few more Pokémon with boosted spawn rates.

Pokemon GO’s Dark Skies Event Lines Up Almost Perfectly With Pokemon TCG Pocket’s New Set Announcement

Despite Dark Skies having concluded, it’s interesting to mention that its ending aligns remarkably with a fresh announcement regarding the Pokemon universe. The Pokemon Company has unveiled plans for a new expansion pack scheduled for release on August 28th, named Secluded Springs, for the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket. This set predominantly focuses on Pokémon from the Johto Region, much like its companion set, Wisdom of Sea and Sky. The Legendary beasts introduced in Pokémon Gold and Silver – Entei, Raikou, and Suicune – will be highlighted in this set, and they’ll even receive their own Pokémon EX cards.

Some Pokemon, Like Entei, Suicune, and Raikou, Are Featured in Both Secluded Springs and Dark Skies

During the Dark Skies event in Pokemon GO, Entei, Suicune, and Raikou, though not the main highlights, made an appearance. Interestingly, on August 21 and August 22, Dynamax versions of these Legendaries could be encountered. Coincidentally, these same dates were when the Secluded Spring expansion for Pokemon TCG Pocket was announced. It’s speculated that The Pokemon Company intentionally released these Dynamax Pokemon on this day to boost the connection between Pokemon GO and Pokemon TCG Pocket by creating a synergy between the two games.

Although The Pokemon Company plays a part in both games, Pokemon GO and Pokemon TCG Pocket are produced by separate development teams. Specifically, Niantic is responsible for creating Pokemon GO, whereas Creatures Inc. and DeNA team up to develop Pokemon TCG Pocket.

In my excitement as a fellow fan, I wanted to share some intriguing details about Pokémon appearances across different games! It turns out that the Legendary beasts aren’t the only Pokémon found in both the Dark Skies event and the Secluded Springs expansion – Latias and Latios, who first appeared in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, are there too. Speaking of which, on August 18, trainers in Pokémon GO had the chance to come across the Dynamax forms of these extraordinary Pokémon. Lastly, keep an eye out for new cards featuring Latias and Latios in the upcoming set of Pokémon TCG Pocket – exciting times ahead!

The Decision to Highlight Certain Pokemon Across Multiple Games May Be Intentional

Although Pokemon characters have been around for quite some time within the game, the Dynamax versions of Entei, Suicune, Raikou, Latias, and Latios were only recently introduced to Pokemon GO. This could possibly be a prelude to the release of Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s upcoming Johto-themed sets, if this was intentionally planned. If so, there are several valid reasons for such an approach. Highlighting specific Pokemon across multiple games can certainly bring them back into focus, especially if they’ve been less prominent in recent mainline Pokemon games. If this cross-promotion strategy turns out to be successful, it might lead to more frequent coordination between events in Pokemon TCG Pocket and Pokemon GO in the future.
