Microsoft wants King employees to use AI on a daily basis.
The latest report by mobilegamer.biz reveals that the team responsible for creating Candy Crush has been instructed to employ Artificial Intelligence (AI) for various day-to-day tasks, as per a new directive.
The sources indicated to the outlet that Microsoft implemented a policy requiring AI usage some time ago. By 2024, they aimed to achieve daily usage of AI by approximately 70-80% of users. However, this target was later increased to 100%, signifying that everyone, including artists, designers, developers, and managers, should use AI on a daily basis by the year 2025.
In simpler terms, during Microsoft’s layoffs in July, King Studios was significantly affected as approximately 200 people were let go. An internal memo at that time also mentioned that more AI tools for productivity would be made available, implying that many of the employees’ roles might be taken over by the AI tools they had developed and trained themselves. These AI tools are designed to aid in narrative creation, testing, and level design.
Regarding AI adoption, a source revealed to Mobile Gamer that AI usage is generally quite limited, with the exception of ChatGPT. Even the executives at King express doubts about AI’s significance within their studio.
