Cyberpunk 2077 Sold More Physical Copies On Nintendo Switch 2 Than Digital

Despite being a version of an older game, Cyberpunk 2077 was among the major third-party launch titles for the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. Interestingly, the game could be obtained either digitally or physically, yet there seemed to be a distinct preference among players regarding their preferred method.

According to their most recent financial statement, over three-quarters of console gamers opted for a physical copy when purchasing Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt Red.

CD Projekt Red’s co-CEO, Michał Novakovski, attributes the strong physical sales of their game on the system to the inclusion of the complete game, including the Phantom Liberty expansion, on a 64GB game card. Novakovski explains that they believe players are drawn to the “convenience” offered by this “plug and play experience.” He also mentions that improvements for the game on the Switch 2 have expanded its appeal to a new audience, but he anticipates an increase in digital sales as well in the future.

During the current quarter, physical sales are still leading, with more stock orders being placed,” he noted. However, in the future, we anticipate that the division of sales between physical and digital channels will mirror our past trends, with digital sales gradually becoming more prevalent as time passes. It’s important to mention that although both sales channels have distinct economies, digital sales tend to produce higher net revenue because they eliminate manufacturing and packaging costs, as well as distributor fees associated with physical copies.
