Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Faces Criticism From Fans Despite Major Sucesss

This article contains spoilers for Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 – Akaza’s Return.

Without a doubt, “Demon Slayer” stands among the most triumphant shonen series of all time. Before its animation adaptation, it had already garnered significant attention from Shonen Jump readers. However, its fame soared to unprecedented heights following the anime release. Since then, fans have been captivated by this captivating series. The success of “Demon Slayer” is evident not just in manga and animation realms, but also in the cinema industry as well.

Akaza’s Return” is highly anticipated, as it hasn’t been released globally yet. However, some fans have voiced concerns about the film, specifically noting that there are extended segments focusing on character backstories which they feel detract from the intense action scenes and take up too much screen time.

Demon Slayer’s Backstories Have Bothered Some Fans

Some Fans Think They Interrupt The Intense Battles

I must confess, it’s truly challenging for numerous Demon Slayer enthusiasts, including myself, to find fault with the latest movie. The sheer brilliance of its animation and the adaptation of one of our favorite story arcs from the series left us utterly captivated. Yet, some viewers never cease to discover criticism. The primary grievance leveled against “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 – Akaza’s Return” centers around the presentation of backstories. Many fans felt these interruptions during intense battles were not well-received.

Initially, a significant moment transpired during the battle between Shinobu and Doma. While reminiscing about her past with her sister, Shinobu also contemplated Kanae’s passing. Similarly, Doma disclosed his life before he became a demon. Next, the fight between Zenitsu and Kaigaku ensued, and again, their shared history was highlighted. These two had trained under the late Thunder Hashira, Jigoro Kuwajima, which was the focus of this part of the battle.

Ultimately, the highly anticipated confrontation between Akaza and Tanjiro, alongside Giyu, unfolded. Tanjiro reminisced about his father’s circumstances, while naturally, Akaza’s compelling backstory from the entire film was unveiled. Though prolonged, it was profound and left a lasting impression.

It Might Annoy Some, But The Backstories Are Essential to the Story

The Complaints Of Fans Aren’t Valid Since They Add To The Story

In the world of Demon Slayer, storylines and character histories (often referred to as lore) play a significant role and are deeply interwoven with the action sequences. Given this series’ emphasis on narrative depth, it was necessary to incorporate these backstories during the movie, as they couldn’t be placed elsewhere without disrupting the overall storyline. It may seem unusual that some viewers express disapproval of these backstories, considering how they add layers of context and emotion to characters-qualities that are cherished aspects of Demon Slayer. Interestingly enough, these elements didn’t appear to cause any issues in the manga version.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle – Part 1 has been released in certain countries, and it will become available in September for others. If you can’t wait that long, you might want to read the manga version available on Manga Plus. As for the anime series, it currently consists of four seasons which can be found on Crunchyroll.
