Recently, Dreamhaven has become the most recent studio to reduce its workforce, dismissing numerous team members.
Today, Dreamhaven Studios, known for producing Wildgate and Sunderfolk, disclosed impending job cuts within their company. At this time, exact numbers have not been revealed, but it appears a significant portion of the staff may be affected. As a relatively new studio, led by former Blizzard cofounder Michael Morhaime, Dreamhaven has only released a handful of games, with Wildgate being the most recent multiplayer shooter. These layoffs, while expected in some industries, are still quite unexpected and undoubtedly disheartening for those impacted.
Dreamhaven CEO Responds to Recent Layoffs
In a recent LinkedIn update from CEO Michael Morhaime, he communicated about upcoming job cuts and offered words of comfort to those affected. Specifically, his message includes news of the layoffs along with some reassuring comments.
Michael announced that it was a difficult decision to downsize our company, particularly impacting our Publishing division. He acknowledged that such decisions are never straightforward, as they involve dedicated team members who have significantly contributed to the growth and success of Dreamhaven over the past year.
Previously, I noted that the specific number of employees who were let go remains undisclosed. However, it appears that support is being offered in the form of severance packages and leads for future job opportunities. Regarding their game lineup, the studio intends to keep producing popular titles such as Wildgate and Sunderfolk.
This year has seen a flurry of job losses and company shutdowns. Only recently, Crystal Dynamics announced layoffs due to the termination of Perfect Dark project. Here’s hoping that with fresh studios emerging, those affected will swiftly find employment again.
