This list contrains spoilers for My Hero Academia
In the captivating world of “My Hero Academia”, I’ve noticed that many characters possess remarkable Quirks, but what truly sets some apart is their ability to unlock the full potential of these powers through a transformative event called a Quirk Awakening. This breakthrough usually occurs later in one’s life, after they’ve already mastered using their Quirk in combat. However, it demands that an individual finds themselves in an extraordinarily intense and critical situation, where they can finally unleash the dormant, immense power that’s been hidden within them all along.
Throughout the “My Hero Academia” series, only a few characters like Shigaraki and Toga have undergone the transformation known as Quirk Awakening. Unfortunately, not all characters were fortunate enough to reach this level of power. Now that the manga has concluded, there’s been plenty of debate online about which other characters might have benefited from a Quirk Awakening, and today we’ll delve deeper into imagining what their abilities and techniques could potentially look like.
Aizawa
Aizawa Would Probably Have Had A Much Easier Time Controlling His Supportive Quirk In Battle
- Quirk: Erasure
- Description: Disables The Quirk Of An Enemy
Initially, a power that prevents a villain from utilizing their unique ability might seem like an essential tool all heroes aspire to possess. However, as Aizawa has demonstrated repeatedly, employing such a power in combat is extraordinarily hazardous. This is because Aizawa must maintain visual contact with his target for extended periods, preventing them from activating their Quirk against him or his comrades. Unfortunately, this constant eye contact puts immense strain on his eyes due to the lack of blinking and further complicates his ability to defend himself effectively since he must concentrate solely on using his power.
If Aizawa were granted the opportunity to unlock his full potential, it’s strongly suggested that his power would not only become more controllable but significantly stronger. For instance, instead of simply deactivating one villain’s ability, he might possess the capacity to neutralize several villains’ powers simultaneously. Furthermore, Aizawa could potentially render a villain helpless with just a glance, allowing him to maintain his defensive advantage without needing to focus on them throughout the entire conflict. This newfound power would undoubtedly simplify life for the laid-back instructor of Class 1-A.
Kaminari
Without The Side Effects, Electrification Would Be An Immensely Powerful Quirk Ability
- Quirk: Electrification
- Description: Shoot Out Bolts Of Electricity
Although Kaminari’s Electrification Quirk is powerful enough to defeat a horde of villains with a single blast, it has significant downsides that make it less than ideal. The primary issue is the overuse of electricity can overload his brain, temporarily turning him into a confused and ineffective fighter. Later on, he managed to get some Support Gear to mitigate this problem, but it’s unfortunate he didn’t receive an Awakening to enhance his combat capabilities as a student in class 1A.
In simpler terms, if Kaminari’s Quirk were to eliminate its major disadvantage, it would render him virtually invincible in battles. This is because, with no concern for his own safety, he could continuously discharge numerous electric attacks, making him a formidable force on the battlefield, and potentially making him more dangerous overall.
Re-Destro
The Influential Leader Of The PLA Could Let His Built-Up Stress Fester Onto His Victims
- Quirk: Stress
- Description: Transform Into A Giant Strong Behemoth When Feeling Stressed
Stress is one of those idiosyncrasies that functions as both an advantage and a challenge for its bearer. Since Re-Destro aims to project an image of a rational businessman and leader, transforming into a massive, fierce mutant under stressful conditions isn’t exactly beneficial for the main character of the Paranormal Liberation Army. However, it does make him a formidable opponent in combat, as was evident when he pushed Shigaraki to the brink during their intense confrontation.
From my perspective, if only Re-Destro could have unleashed his Awakening during that fight, it would’ve added an extra layer of thrill. His Awakening, capable of infecting others with his malicious emotions, would escalate the battle, making it intense beyond measure. Given that he already has an impressive physical presence with his initial Quirk, it seems plausible that his Awakening could sow self-doubt in fighters during conflict, thereby offering Re-Destro a strategic advantage to capitalize upon.
Muscular
Muscular Could Use His Muscle Fiber Extensions In Some Pretty Interesting Ways
- Quirk: Muscle Augmentation
- Description: Cover The User’s Body With Muscle Fibers, Granting Them Durability And Strength
In simpler terms, Muscular isn’t a complex villain with global domination plans or a desire to impose his beliefs on society. Instead, he is a merciless killer who derives pleasure from eliminating any heroes that oppose him, thanks to the strength boosted by his Muscle Augmentation. When Muscular unleashes his ability for the first time against Deku, it’s evident how the fibers spread across his body before transforming him into a massive titan. It seems as though using these fibers during an Awakening later in the story could have made for a more impactful plot development.
In a similar fashion to Deku’s Blackwhip, Muscular might utilize fibers to seize opponents from a distance. Given that he’s largely ineffective at long range, this would address Muscular’s primary weakness, making him a more adaptable and threatening villain. Conversely, his Quirk Awakening could have the opposite effect, transforming him into a leaner, slimmer version while retaining a notable strength increase to overcome opponents effectively.
Tokoyami
Tokoyami Could Embrace His Inner Darkness, Becoming One With His Shadow
- Quirk: Dark Shadow
- Description: Summon A Shadow Entity That Can Be Controlled
Tokoyami’s ability allows him to conjure a large, dark entity that can inflict substantial harm on enemies, particularly during night-time. However, as the entity is under his control, it may occasionally act unpredictably and independently. Conversely, this shadowy figure becomes largely ineffective during daylight, making it somewhat unreliable and requiring careful handling due to its complex nature.
An impending transformation might cause Tokoyami’s Quirk to evolve from a separate, manageable entity into an integral part of his being. In such a case, if Tokoyami could truly assimilate with the darkness, thereby overcoming sun-induced weakness, he would gain substantial control over the beast’s actions. This newfound command would not only make the beast more agile but also significantly increase its overall threat level.
Mirio Togata
Mirio Would Be The Ultimate Support Hero If He Could Permeate Others
- Quirk: Permeation
- Description: User Becomes Intangible For A Few Seconds
Mirio possesses a unique talent: making his entire body pass through solid matter. After slipping through the ground, he can rocket back up at astonishing speeds, surprising enemies when they least anticipate it. Yet, this skill is somewhat limited in application due to its self-centered nature. But with an Awakening, it could potentially become more versatile and less self-focused.
Instead of simply enabling Mirio to pass through objects, activating his Quirk could potentially allow him to make others he touches intangible as well. For instance, during the Overhaul arc, this could have enabled him to rescue Eri from dangerous situations more effectively. However, due to a prolonged period without his Quirk in the storyline, Mirio didn’t get a chance to fully exploit its potential. Yet, it’s intriguing to speculate about how this unique power could function if it were even stronger than currently depicted.
Star And Stripe
Make The Most Overpowered Ability In The Series Even More Absurd
- Quirk: New Order
- Description: Set Up To Two New Rules On Tangible Structures, Objects, And People
Some might contend that Star and Stripe’s ability, New Order, is already excessively potent, rendering an Awakening unnecessary. However, considering Star features sparingly throughout the narrative, it could be argued that there was minimal risk in allowing her to fully exploit New Order’s capabilities. Given her potential, it’s challenging to envision how Shigaraki would have fared against her in a battle. With New Order, Star and Stripe can establish rules for anything they touch, such as being able to physically hold a laser beam or causing Shigaraki’s heart to stop if he so much as moves a muscle – feats that could be accomplished almost instantly.
Should New Order be resurrected, there are several paths for it to grow even more potent. The most straightforward is expanding Star’s ability to apply multiple rules simultaneously, which is currently her greatest limitation due to her Quirk. If author Horikoshi wanted to take things to the extreme, he could allow Star and Stripe to manipulate principles beyond physical entities, like time and space itself. This would essentially make Star a deity, necessitating her swift removal from the narrative to prevent future complications, though given the current story arc, such an Awakening before her departure would have been quite captivating.
