The unexpected outcome of the Shibuya Incident left many surprised. Following the demise of all high-ranking supernatural entities, it was believed that the heroes had ultimately taken control. However, the emergence of Pseudo-Geto towards the end exposed the truth – this entire situation had been part of his carefully orchestrated scheme. Upon Mahito’s defeat, Pseudo-Geto utilized Cursed Spirit Manipulation to absorb him and obtained his Idle Transfiguration Cursed Technique for a single use.

Indeed, the Shibuya Incident was carefully orchestrated by him with the intention of trapping Gojo in the Prison Realm, thus preventing any interference with his grand scheme. Upon acquiring Idle Transfiguration, he utilized it on a thousand people from all over Japan, initiating the long-planned event this enigmatic figure had been masterminding for more than a millennium.

What Exactly Was The Culling Game And Why Was It So Important?

The Ultimate Battle Royale

Fundamentally, the Culling Games were orchestrated over a thousand years by the sinister mastermind of the series, Kenjaku; in reality, he was Pseudo-Geto. An ancient sorcerer, Kenjaku is hinted to be older than Sukuna. Driven primarily by his insatiable curiosity, his goal has always been to refine Cursed Energy for the purpose of human advancement and evolution.

The method Kenjaku used was quite intriguing. In essence, he thought that regardless of how strong a Jujutsu sorcerer might be, their human limitations still apply and impact the power of the Cursed Spirits generated from their fears. To observe humanity’s potential evolution, Kenjaku proposed merging with Master Tengen by combining all worldwide Cursed Energy to create a single, massive Cursed Spirit – an embodiment of disorder in essence.

Hey there, Sukuna! The cycle’s starting anew – we’re stepping back into the era of Heian. Renowned as the Golden Age of Jujutsu!

Interestingly enough, Kenjaku himself didn’t have a clear image of what this would turn out to be, but over the course of his thousand-year existence on Earth, he had meticulously planned the steps for its execution. He traveled extensively among various Jujutsu practitioners and Curse Users throughout different epochs in Japan, sealing agreements with them that tied them to specific Cursed Artifacts. In the present day, it seems that Kenjaku orchestrated events so that these Cursed Artifacts were accidentally consumed by random individuals, where they would remain dormant until the opportune moment.

During this period, the Shibuya Incident concluded, marking the point where he shattered the seals on these artifacts. This action unleashed the spirits of ancient sorcerers trapped within, which possessed those who consumed them. These individuals were subsequently reborn in the current era as participants in the Culling Game. For others involved, their magical abilities were activated from a distance by Kenjaku, or they were Curse Users or contemporary Jujutsu practitioners.

Once the participating players were set, the primary objective was for each individual to engage in a vast, nationwide battle royale spanning across 10 distinct regions within Japan, each functioning as an independent colony. As soon as someone enters any one of these colonies, they become game participants and are transported instantaneously to a random spot within the territory. The objective was for players to eliminate other sorcerers and participants to accumulate points, with the player amassing the most points at the end of the game being declared the victor.

Kenjaku’s intention behind the Culling Games was not just a simple competition, but rather a means to induce participants to unleash a specific amount of Cursed Energy. This mass release would eventually bring forth the most powerful Cursed Spirit. Over centuries, Kenjaku meticulously orchestrated the games and entered into countless agreements, swearing on various things, all in order to guarantee the success of his plan, even if it cost him his life.

Rules of the Culling Games:

  1. Those who took part in the game due to the activation of their Cursed Technique by the Idle Transfiguration ability must choose to participate within 19 days of their technique’s activation.
  2. Anyone who refuses to participate within this time undergoes a forceful Cursed Technique Removal, which ends up killing them in the process.
  3. Anyone who enters one of the 10 colonies, whether they’re Jujutsu Sorcerers, Curse Users, or regular people, is made an active player of the game.
  4. The main objective is to gain the most points by killing or defeating other players.
  5. Sorcerers, or those with the ability to use Cursed Energy, are worth 5 points, while non-sorcerers are worth only 1 point.
  6. Anyone who ends up with 100 points, excluding their own value, is able to add a rule to the game. They can continue to do this for every subsequent 100 points they achieve.
  7. These rules can only be added if they are in accordance with the previous rules and don’t go against them in any way.
  8. Those whose points remain the same for a total of 19 days are also subject to Cursed Technique Removal.
