Even though the main storyline of “My Hero Academia” concluded in the manga last year, it remains one of today’s most beloved anime and manga series. True to anticipation, Horikoshi brought his manga to a close following the events of the Final War, where Izuku Midoriya and all the heroes battled against All For One and his followers. The battles were nothing short of spectacular, with power being showcased in grand fashion throughout.

It turns out that Horikoshi, the creator of My Hero Academia, has unveiled an alternate ending to the story. This revised conclusion might have significantly altered the Final War’s outcome if it had been used instead. In this version, Deku would have remained quirkless throughout, and some supporting characters may not have lived up to fans’ expectations.

“In my alternative ending, Izuku Midoriya would have remained Quirkless forever. I wanted him to permanently give up being a Hero and instead focus on teaching. The narrative’s main emphasis in this version would be on Deku himself rather than the side characters. In the final panel, instead of showing all the major Heroes jumping together, I imagined it being Deku telling a child that they can still become a Hero even after using up their powers.

In a more natural and easy-to-read manner, the question could be rephrased as: “Did the author intend for the series’ narrative to evolve from ‘This is the story of how I became the greatest hero’ (Chapter 1), to ‘This is the story of how we all became the greatest heroes’ (Chapter 324), and finally to ‘This is the story of how we all continue to reach out a helping hand together’ (Chapter 430) from the very start?

Horikoshi clarified: Not as originally intended! The ending wasn’t supposed to show Deku as a teacher saying “You can be a hero!” with his powers depleted but radiating confidence. Instead, the story evolved beyond being solely about Deku and One For All. Through this series, I aimed to explore “What does it mean to be the greatest hero?” The answer that emerged from this manga is that it means extending a helping hand to others, so the final monologue in chapter 430 was revised to reflect that change.

Deku’s Role In The Story Was Significantly Altered

In an altered ending for Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia, Izuku Midoriya, or Deku, might have taken on a teaching role instead.
