Approximately 77,000 individuals have initiated a petition in an attempt to persuade Showtime and Paramount to reconsider their decision and revive the canceled series “Dexter: Original Sin“. The “Dexter” franchise has consistently ranked among Showtime’s and Paramount+ streaming service’s most-watched programs. The original show is considered a television gem, while its revivals have also achieved significant success.
Following the end of Dexter in 2013, the series was revived as Dexter: New Blood in 2021, serving as a sequel that continued the story approximately ten years later. Viewers saw Dexter: New Blood as an attempt to rectify the controversial ending of the original series, but left many fans craving more. To satisfy this demand for additional Dexter content, two new shows were created – Dexter: Original Sin and Dexter: Resurrection. Both spin-offs debuted in 2025 and enjoyed success; Dexter: Original Sin was renewed for a second season, while work on a second season of Dexter: Resurrection had already commenced as well.
Despite Dexter: Original Sin being given a second season renewal, it was subsequently announced that plans had shifted, leading to the series ultimately being canceled. Unsurprisingly, this move did not sit well with Dexter fans, and now thousands have rallied on Change.org by signing a petition urging Paramount and Showtime to reconsider their decision and revive the show for Season 2.
Over 77,000 People Sign Dexter: Original Sin Petition

Despite more than 77,000 people having signed the petition to preserve the series Dexter: Original Sin from cancellation, there’s a strong possibility that it won’t make much difference. Frequently, petitions requesting entertainment companies to take specific actions go unheeded. Although it’s possible that decisions regarding Dexter: Original Sin could still undergo further alterations, fans of the Dexter universe might want to remain cautiously optimistic rather than expecting a drastic change.

Original Sin” was varied at first. Given Dexter’s status as a legendary television character, many skeptics questioned whether anyone could effectively replace Michael C. Hall in the title role. However, Patrick Gibson’s portrayal of a younger Dexter managed to win over numerous viewers, and the overall cast garnered considerable praise, particularly Molly Brown for her depiction of Dexter’s sister Debra Morgan.

Although it’s unfortunate that Dexter: Original Sin won’t continue for a second season, fans still have lots of details from the original series to help them imagine how things might have turned out. The ending of Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 didn’t leave many unanswered questions that require specific head-canon, but it’s intriguing to speculate what a second season could have offered.
