4 PlayStation Plus Games to Play This Week (9/7 – 9/13)

PlayStation Plus has been a boon for players like me, who love to experience the most games possible. But with its sprawling selection comes an unavoidable catch: it can be wickedly difficult to decide which game to play. But have no fear, I’ve arrived to be your PlayStation Plus guide.

As a gaming enthusiast, I must confess that the abundance of critically acclaimed games on PlayStation Plus and Game Pass is nothing short of exhilarating! However, the challenge lies in choosing which critically acclaimed masterpiece, indie gem, or hidden treasure to dive into first. I’ve discovered that dividing my gaming time week by week can be a useful strategy here, although it might also end up increasing my ever-growing backlog – apologies for that!

Sword of the Sea

Available on PS Plus Extra

Introduced just last month as an exceptional exclusive for PlayStation Plus Extra, the game titled “Sword of the Sea” represents the latest psychedelic, upbeat adventure from the creators behind games like “Abzu” and “The Pathless“. Immersing players in a world reminiscent of its predecessors, “Sword of the Sea” delivers the same hypnotic atmosphere and fluid gameplay. However, it takes things a step further with its more avant-garde visuals and movements. If you’ve enjoyed past games by Giant Squid, chances are you won’t find “Sword of the Sea” difficult to get into.

  • How long to beat Sword of the Sea: 2.5 hours for the main story, 10 hours to 100%.

FBC: Firebreak

Available on PS Plus Extra

Initially, upon its release, I found “FBC: Firebreak” more aggravating than entertaining, which isn’t a very positive assessment. However, after several months, while I still don’t find it an absolute delight, I also wouldn’t advise you to steer clear of it completely. If you are a fan of Remedy Entertainment, then “FBC: Firebreak” might be worth checking out as it retains their unique appeal, despite some missteps in the cooperative shooter genre.

Intriguingly, Remedy is planning to provide the game with the full live-service treatment, with a significant update due this month. If you don’t want to miss out on these updates, you might want to consider adding “Firebreak” to your collection.

  • How long to “beat” FBC: Firebreak: It takes around 10 hours to see all the content that FBC: Firebreak currently has to offer.

inFAMOUS First Light

Available on PS Plus Extra

It’s surprising that only inFAMOUS First Light from the series is available on PS Plus Extra. In my opinion, inFAMOUS Second Son, although often overlooked, is a remarkable game. If I could choose, I’d be suggesting it instead. But don’t worry, First Light makes for a great substitute. This standalone expansion lets you play as Fetch, a secondary character and love interest from the main game, who possesses various “Neon” abilities. Although the power system in this game is less complex than that of Second Son, it offers an intriguing narrative, and Fetch might even be a more compelling protagonist than Delsin, the leading character in Second Son. So, if you’re a fan of the series, I think it’s definitely worth your time.

  • How long to beat inFAMOUS First Light: 5 hours for the main story, 10 hours to 100%.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Available on PS Plus Extra

Back in the day, I was completely hooked on LittleBigPlanet! Even though the series seems to be taking a break right now, enthusiasts can still get their fix with the spin-off platformer, Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Stepping out of the 2.5D world of its predecessors, this new game offers more complex and varied movement mechanics, yet it maintains the fun collect-a-thon essence that made LittleBigPlanet so popular. In simple terms, it’s a blast to play, especially when you team up with someone for the co-op mode!

  • How long to beat Sackboy: A Big Adventure: 11 hours for the main campaign, 34 hours to 100%.
