This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.
In the climactic tale of “One Piece,” creator Oda has tirelessly introduced venerable figures from ancient times. He’s given fans glimpses into Joy Boy, and more recently, he unveiled the full life story of Rocks D. Xebec, a revered figure. However, if fans thought that was the end, they were mistaken as Oda has continued to uncover yet another legend from the ancient era within “One Piece.
In bygone times, well before the present age of the One Piece universe, there lived a legendary figure known as Davy D. Jones. He was infamous for being an adversary of the World Government and posed a significant danger to Imu. It’s possible that this legend emerged during the Void Century, but according to the tales of the One Piece world, he may still be alive today.

Davy D. Jones Lives On The Seafloor

- Davy D. Jones could still be alive
- He is worshipped by many in the One Piece world
In the Elbaf arc’s flashback featuring Loki, Eiichiro Oda formally introduced Davy Jones to the audience of One Piece. This character was initially hinted at by Rocks D. Xebec during his attack on Marijoa and subsequent journey into the Room of Flowers. Here, Rocks crossed paths with Imu, and interestingly, he confided in Imu that he was a devotee of Davy Jones. It was then that viewers began to comprehend that Davy Jones held significant importance within the One Piece world’s Void Century.
According to reports, he is believed to be living at the ocean floor, and he asserts ownership over all the treasures that sank along with him.
They say this guy’s down at the bottom of the ocean, and he’s got dibs on any treasure that went under with him.
In chapter 1159 of One Piece, Oda provided additional information about certain characters. It turns out that Davy Jones’s true name was Davy D. Jones, and he was part of the Davy Clan, which opposed the World Government but was eventually wiped out. This clan had ties to God Valley, where Rocks was born. Interestingly enough, Rocks’ real name is Davy D. Xebec, and his son, Blackbeard, is none other than Davy D. Teach.
Returning to the infamous Davy D. Jones, he’s quite a recognizable character within the pirate circles of the One Piece universe. Legend has it that all submerged treasures and sunken ships belong to Davy Jones. During Davy Back battles, tribute is paid to this enigmatic figure. Most notably, rumors abound that Davy Jones continues to live and navigate the ocean floor of the One Piece world. This intriguing piece of information was shared by Robin herself, suggesting that he might still be alive, but his existence remains hidden from fans for now.

Davy D. Jones Was Cursed By Imu
The World Government Tried To Erase The Davy Clan

It appears that Davy Jones and Imu were adversaries, possibly engaging in conflict at some stage. The narrative reveals that Imu overpowered Davy Jones and his entire clan, but it’s also mentioned that Davy Jones can be found at the bottom of the ocean. Interestingly, in the original folklore, Davy Jones is under a curse by the Sea God, which could imply that he was cursed by Imu, explaining why Davy D. Jones roams the ocean floor.
He might be both immortal and possessing a Devil Fruit, thus explaining why he remains hidden at the bottom of the sea, and potentially be unveiled to the audience during the climactic Final War.
