The Wailing Mother Quest Guide In Silksong

In simpler terms, The Wailing Mother is a mission where Hornet searches for and battles Broodmother. This is classified as a Grand Hunt quest within the Songclave secure zone of Choral Chambers. Upon completion of the initial set of wishes on the respective Wishwall (like the Balm for the Wounded quest in Silksong), you can accept this mission. Additionally, you need to advance significantly in Act 2’s main storyline.

After receiving the ‘Wailing Mother’ quest in Silksong, Hornet embarks on a mission to locate and defeat the Wailing Creature residing within the Slab. It’s revealed later that this creature is actually known as Broodmother, and she can be found northwest of the Slab, nearly on the topmost level. To find her, you should follow her slime trails which are dispersed throughout the Slab region.

To get to the Slab area, first enter the First Shrine’s Ventrica and then transport yourself into the Choral Chambers by teleporting. Subsequently, ascend a few levels to discover the gate that takes you outside the Choral Chambers and into the Slab. Alternatively, use the First Shrine’s Ventrica to transport to the Grand Bellway’s Ventrica. Once there, utilize the Bellway to teleport directly to the Slab, then climb from its base all the way to the top.

If you’ve never been kidnapped to The Slab, the Key of Apostate is required to enter the area.

Upon entering the Wailing Mother’s chamber where Hornet stands, you’ll notice a hidden crevice in the wall behind her. Interact with this secret opening to descend into a narrow tunnel filled with small insectoid enemies like Guardfly and Wardfly. Continue along the linear path until you encounter the Broodmother. Overpower her in battle to obtain the Broodmother’s Eye item. Keep in mind that she summons hordes of flies during combat, so be sure to dispatch them promptly to prevent becoming overwhelmed quickly. It’s crucial to dodge her attacks and wait for an opportune moment to strike back.

Following the defeat of the Broodmother, retrieve her eye and then return to the Songclave’s Wishwall to deposit the item. This action concludes the ‘Wailing Mother’ quest within Hollow Knight: Silksong.
