The anticipated release date for Slay the Spire 2 has been shifted from 2025 to 2026, implying a delay in its launch. Joining a growing list of postponed games this year, Slay the Spire 2 is one of the recent titles that will now be released next year.
This year, various types of gamers have experienced delays in game releases. Ranging from independent studios postponing games like “Little Witch in the Woods” to major companies such as Ubisoft, several games have been pushed back. Interestingly, as many as seven games have been delayed solely because of the launch of “Hollow Knight: Silksong”. Other developers, however, have opted for delays to enhance their titles or rectify any technical issues before release.
Slay the Spire 2 Developers Announce Delay
Enthusiasts of the game “Slay the Spire” might find themselves feeling let down upon learning that the anticipated sequel has been postponed, shifting its launch from 2025 to around 2026 instead. The developers have confirmed this change and clarified that the delay of “Slay the Spire 2” was not linked to the release of “Hollow Knight: Silksong.” In fact, it appears that the team had already been contemplating a new release date for the sequel even before the release date for “Silksong” was announced. Currently, Mega Crit has not given an exact launch date for the game, but they have mentioned that it will be released on a Thursday in March 2026.
Some gamers may be disappointed to learn that they won’t get to play Slay the Spire 2 in 2025 as previously scheduled, but there’s a solid explanation for the delay. The developers have shared that the sequel will offer far more content than the original game, and they are determined to deliver a quality product that lives up to their fans’ high expectations. As evidence of this expanded content, they revealed two separate branches in the game, each with strikingly distinct environments, enemies, and events within each act. This additional content promises increased replayability and variety for each playthrough. The first act, for instance, includes the Overgrowth path that’s meant to resemble an overgrown ruin, as well as Underdocks, a waterway connected to the Spire’s sewer system.
Although many gamers perceive delays as unfavorable, they are often essential for various reasons. For instance, developers may need extra time to polish games like Slay the Spire 2 to meet high quality standards. In other cases, delays can save a game from being overshadowed by more prominent releases, such as GTA 6, which was moved to mid-2026, ensuring that The Ghost of Yotei team’s project will no longer compete directly with it. Hopefully, the delay in Slay the Spire 2 development results in a game that players truly enjoy.
