In the recent Nintendo Direct presentation, Capcom announced that the latest editions of their popular Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village, will be making their way to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. This extensive event showcased updates for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, the first glimpse and title unveiling of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the exclusive initial launch of Hades 2 on Switch 2, and confirmed that the forthcoming Resident Evil game, Resident Evil Requiem, will be available on Switch 2 from its release date.
In 2019, the remake of “Resident Evil 2” helped revive the popularity of the “Resident Evil” franchise, but two years prior, Capcom shook things up with “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.” This game marked a first for the series by offering a first-person perspective and introducing Ethan Winters as the new protagonist. In 2021, the sequel, “Resident Evil Village,” continued the first-person experience and Ethan’s storyline, but added a surreal, fantastical element with its cast of bizarre, monstrous characters like Lady Dimitrescu and her gang in a snowy European castle filled with violent lycans. These games, currently playable on the original Switch via cloud streaming, might soon be available on the new Switch model as well.
Resident Evil 7 and Village Switch 2 Release Date
- February 27, 2026
At Nintendo’s recent Direct event, one of the major announcements was that the game “Resident Evil: Requiem” is scheduled to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on its release date. Alongside this news, it was also revealed that both “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard” and “Resident Evil Village” will make their way onto the Nintendo Switch 2 on February 27. While not yet officially confirmed, it’s anticipated that the Switch 2 will be capable of running native versions of these games without the need for cloud streaming.
On the same day as the release of Resident Evil Requiem, these two games are set to arrive on Switch 2. This means that fans using Nintendo’s latest console might miss out on catching up with these titles before they join in on the excitement and discussions surrounding Resident Evil Requiem. However, one can’t help but ponder when Capcom will bring their updated versions of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 to Switch 2. It’s possible that these games could become available around the time the next Resident Evil remake is released, which is strongly suggested to be either Resident Evil Code: Veronica or Resident Evil 0. Yet, with Requiem set to launch in a few months, it will likely take some time before Capcom announces their next Resident Evil remake.
It seems that with the launch of “Resident Evil Requiem” on the Nintendo Switch 2 happening simultaneously as its release on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, it’s reasonable to expect future “Resident Evil” games will follow the same pattern. So, mark your calendars for February 27, which is the day set for “Resident Evil Requiem”. Switch 2 owners are undoubtedly excited to play this game along with “RE7” and “Village” all at once.
