What Should You Do with GenIVIV in Borderlands 4?

In *Borderlands 4*, players will return to Embracer’s Bluff in Carcadia Burn and encounter GenIVIV, a dangerous AI from a previous game. She’s involved in the ‘Potty Mouth’ side mission and presents players with a difficult choice: they can either install her into a sound system or ask Moxxi to permanently erase her. Players might want to consider the consequences of each option before finishing the quest.

Should You Install GenIVIV or Erase Her Forever?

Potty Mouth can either put GenIVIV’s core into the sound system at Moxxi’s Bottoms Up, or have Moxxi destroy it. However, your choice doesn’t actually matter – you’ll get the same rewards either way, and it won’t change anything in the game. Here’s what happens in both scenarios:

  • Install GenIVIV into the sound system — GenIVIV lives, but as part of the bar’s jukebox. She has no dialogue and cannot be interacted with.
  • Give GenIVIV to erase her forever (probably) — Moxxi takes GenIVIV and places the core in her pocket, never to be seen again, implying that she was either destroyed later or kept for a rainy day.

GenIVIV’s decommissioning wasn’t ideal, but since the AI was dangerous and unwilling to change, it’s probably best they didn’t give it a robot body. For this mission, we decided to install its program into the ship’s sound system. It’s funny to keep GenIVIV ‘alive’ – a running joke with Claptrap – and it also opens up possibilities for using the AI in future stories. After all, if it could survive being stuck in the toilet of Sanctuary 3, it can definitely handle listening to some jazz.
