Magic: The Gathering’s 2026 Release Schedule Wouldn’t Be Complete Without This UB Set

Magic: The Gathering is finishing a successful year and has more sets planned, including collaborations with other popular universes, through 2025. The recent Final Fantasy set was a huge hit, both changing how players build decks and becoming the most financially successful set ever-earning $200 million in just one day. This momentum sets Magic: The Gathering up for another strong year ahead.

The *Marvel’s Spider-Man* Universes Beyond set is generating excitement and will be released on September 26th, followed by the *Avatar: The Last Airbender* collection on November 21st. While those are the last planned releases for this year, some information about *Magic: The Gathering* in 2026 has already surfaced. Considering these collaborative sets will likely continue, I think one particular partnership would be especially successful.

Because of licensing restrictions, Wizards of the Coast is releasing a digital-only set called *Through the Omenpaths*. This set will feature cards inspired by *Spider-Man*, presented as if they exist within the game’s world.

I’m Really Hoping That One of Magic: The Gathering’s 2026 Universes Beyond Sets is a Resident Evil Crossover

Wizards of the Coast Will Reveal More Information About the 2026 Release Schedule Soon

Next year, 2026, will see six new Magic: The Gathering sets that are legal for Standard play. Half of these will be original sets, and the other half will come from the Universes Beyond series. We already know that *Lorwyn Eclipsed* is coming out on January 23, 2026, and *Secrets of Strixhaven* is planned for release in the second quarter of the year. The third original set, which will conclude the current story arc, is expected in the third quarter, but currently goes by the codename *Ziplining*. Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait long for more details. Wizards of the Coast will reveal more of the 2026 plans at the upcoming MagicCon, which is happening on the same day the *Spider-Man* set is fully released.

Why a Magic: The Gathering x Resident Evil Collaboration in 2026 Would be a Perfect Fit

Over the years, *Magic: The Gathering* has explored many different worlds and styles, from the animal-focused *Bloomburrow* to the Western-inspired *Outlaws of Thunder Junction*. The newest set, *Edge of Eternities*, dives into science fiction. A collaboration with *Resident Evil* would fit well with *MTG*’s previous forays into horror, such as the Lovecraft-inspired *Shadows Over Innistrad* and last year’s *Duskmourn: House of Horror*.

The main reason now is a perfect time for a crossover is that 2026 will be the 30th anniversary of *Resident Evil*. Plus, the new *Resident Evil: Requiem* game is coming out in February. A *Resident Evil* set created with Capcom would be a great way to celebrate this anniversary and, like the *Final Fantasy* set, could attract both new and existing players.

As a big movie buff, thinking about how they could bring this story to life again, I see a similar approach to what Magic: The Gathering did with *Fallout* and *Final Fantasy* working really well. They could spotlight a handful of the most iconic characters as Commanders, and I’ve already been imagining which characters would fit best and what colors they’d be associated with.

  • Chris Redfield/Leon Kennedy (White/Red/Green)
  • Albert Wesker (Black/Red/Blue)
  • Jill Valentine (White/Blue/Red)
  • Lady Dimitrescu (Blue/Black/Green)

I just have a few ideas that I think could make a *Resident Evil* and *Magic: The Gathering* crossover amazing. We could see some of the supporting characters from the games included, along with all the different enemies and iconic moments from the series’ history. Honestly, I think bringing *Resident Evil* into the *Magic* universe would be incredible, and 2026 feels like the perfect time to do it. These are just my thoughts, but I believe they’re a great place to start!
